Cycling 4:37:00 [3] 90.0 km (3:05 / km) +2000m 2:46 / km

Last ride of the year (decade). Went out after it had stopped raining. Still wet out and spent a fair bit of time in thick cloud. Visibility of less than 50m for lots of it made for sketchy riding. Could have been shit but actually quite a good ride in the end.

Note

Cracked 400hrs on attackpoint for the first time. Mainly due to more cycling, although my big cycling years were pre AP.
Also least amount of high intensity training for an AP year.

It's been another frustrating year with injury. It's now been 3 years trying to sort out this piriformis/ sciatic/ hammy thing.
At least i can cycle to keep me sane. The biggest training improvement has definitely been being able to cycle to work.

Best race for the year would be the act middle at wee jasper.
Best ride - the Tourmalet and cirque de troumouse.
Best run - not 'best' but the evening runs in 40°C up at Cannington were definitely an experience.
Most wft moment - the China trip. For so many reasons.

Note
(rest day)

More rain so another day off. Had a sort of plan to get a bus up the mountain but the forecast for up there is worse. Now we need to decide whether to sacrifice a ride day to go, or ride there. It would be a 130k day.

Note
(rest day)

Raining. I guess that makes it a rest day.

Cycling 2:35:00 [3] 58.0 km (2:40 / km) +1000m 2:28 / km

Shorter ride cos Steve needs to pack and leave this afternoon. Saw other cyclists! Some locals and a dude touring. All surprised to see other cyclists. Also found good coffee at the top of a hill.

Cycling 4:40:00 [3] 95.0 km (2:57 / km) +2100m 2:39 / km

Found some madly steep hills. Strava is giving numbers up to 97% but i think that might be a slight exaggeration.

Another outing in the land of hot mix farm tracks

Cycling 3:30:00 [3] 70.0 km (3:00 / km) +1400m 2:44 / km

Xmas ride. Recovery day for Dan and Steve and easier day for me to get going again. Stayed in the foothills but that meant lots of short punchy climbs. Some with brutal gradients. 20%+ was a bit much for me today. Lots of little tracks through the plantations.
Visited an old haunted house near the end.

Note

Now Dan has a sore throat. Merry Xmas!

Sore throat thing. Can't say I'm surprised.
The boys ride looked really nice. Hopefully there'll be another chance to head out that way. And hopefully this bug doesn't hang around too long.

Cycling 4:30:00 [3] 84.0 km (3:13 / km) +2400m 2:49 / km

First ride in Taiwan. We're based in chiayi for a couple of weeks. Lots of rides up into the hills.
Roll out of town in the chaos of the scooter lane. After 10ks the hills start and the traffic disappears. Lots of small twisty hill roads. Plenty of gradients in the 15%+ range. Lots of plantations - palms out some sort, bananas, bamboo and tea. Saw monkeys, but they hide as soon as you stop.

back on the giant so I can pack the other bike. light and fast but feels weird to ride with a heavy backpack, and something in the seat rails is creaking. I guess I shouldn't neglect it so much.

Note

most of the weekend got chewed up with a level 2 controllers course. preparing course materials sat, then presenting sun. Got 6 people to this one and I think it went pretty well. need a weekend now to recover though.

Cycling 1:00:00 [3]

found a couple of puddles on the way home after a storm. had a 'how deep can it be' thought as I rode into the first one... before I'd seen the flood board. 0.8m. its not like I was going to stay dry anyway.

Ran out of time for some of the hammy stuff last week so made sure i did them this time.
Also - new bridge which is going to make a good short cut on the way home now looks like a bridge instead of just some survey marks. Progress!
