Orienteering race 19:50 [5]

World cup sprint. Awesome area in songtang village with heaps of tiny alleys. I was going ok for the first 2/3 But then lost concentration and struggled to interpret the map and took a bunch of wrong turns on the last few controls. Not as much straight running so hammy survived better, but i also took care not to push to too much to avoid a repeat of the relay. Couldn't do a warm down.

Orienteering 20:00 [1]

Walk around the sprint model with Krystal. Looks like it's going to be heaps of fun. Hoping that hammy cooperates a bit and i can run a bit tmw.

Orienteering race 20:00 [5]

World cup sprint relay. Running last leg for Australia 3. Pretty exciting watching the race unfold but warming up i knew my hammy wasn't great. We were a fair bit back by the time i went out so i took it easy. That still wasn't enough and my hammy was really bad by the end and it was all i could manage to keep some pretend run going. Lost a few mins at the end but didn't lose any places. Got about 30 secs out out the finish before being told i needed to be in a jury meeting.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [1]

Very slow warn up to try and convince my legs to go. Gave up on warm down after 50m of painful shuffle.

Note

Interesting day. I ended up on the jury for the men's middle race where a few people had been disqualified for running through olive green. Ii think that came down to being an EA that the SEA knew where to find. So the morning got chewed up with various discussions about the event but because the organisers hadn't (Or been able to) follow the procedures about the complaint we didn't really have anything to make a decision on. Eventually stuff happened in the background and the iof decided that the jury should make the ruling. Second round meeting was after the relay and by then there were 3 protests, but we were able to come to a decision without too much drama. Hopefully the jury report will be available soon.

As is often the case the jury isn't going to please everyone and has to come up with the least bad option.
As is always the case the bullshit commentary has been flying thick and fast. Particularly from those who aren't even here.

Orienteering race 1:02:23 [5] 5.0 km (12:29 / km) +290m 9:40 / km

World cup middle. Definitely one of the more interesting races I've ever done. Certainly a lot more proper orienteering in it than the previous event there which didn't need too many off track adventures.
I think my nav was ok considering how scrappy the terrain was. Most of my time losses were due to skewing down to figure out the map or getting stuck at the top or bottom of a massive earth bank. At least getting down had the option of an uncontrolled slide, which i took a few times.
Crazy humid and cooked fairly quickly but found a steady pace through most of the middle section. Hammy pain went from dull ache to sharp with about 4 controls to go but that was mostly downhill by then.
Overall i think i survived it better than i was expecting to.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Easy warm up. No warm down cos hammy didn't want to go any further.

Orienteering 35:00 [2]

Middle model. Easy run around. Scrappy and steep terrain with heaps of paths. Ran around with Marty for a bit explaining 'how to model event' which was good cos it made me pay more attention than i would have on my own.
Bridget and bun got abandoned by the organisers and needed some intervention from the SEA to get a lift out.

Orienteering 15:00 [2]

Sprint model. Stairs! Parkland area near the hotel. Not sure how relevant it was but it was a really fun area.

Orienteering 20:00 [2]

O fail. Middle distance-ish course at bluestone north but only got to control 1 before my good hammy did a massive cramp/ spasm thing and declared it wasn't going any further. So walked back. Hoping it's just some electrolyte thing from the last few days. Time for some magnesium.

Sick. Off work yesterday. Weird fever thing with a bad headache and crazy tired. Also very hungry and feeling super dehydrated. Not surprised as I've been feeling bad all week.

Orienteering intervals 50:00 [4]

Sprint intervals at uq. Still a crazy amount of people there after 5pm on a public holiday. Did a training session from a while ago. Took a while to get going but the middle part was good. Got tired at the end. Still quite warm so good sweating training for China.

Orienteering 35:00 [3]

O training at MOEC. map is fairly out of date, and probably wasn't that good to start with (one of my earlier efforts, on a short timeline, about 10 yrs ago). worth updating as its quite a fun area. hot and steep.

Orienteering 20:00 [4]

O training at boonah high. somewhat over-mapped area and 1:2500. 40 controls in 20 mins, so starting to feel a bit dizzy by the end. great little map.
hammy/piriformis not super happy and legs a bit heavy.
