Cycling 1:20:00 [3]

mtb ride in gap creek. there had been enough rain early in the morning to keep the dust down (and the punters away), but without making it too slippery.
First ride out there in years. Luckily I seemed to be able to remember how to ride, and had a lot of fun. The tracks have changed a lot since last time I was in there.
Good breakfast afterwards with the runners - Clare, Wendy, Mark and guest stars Julz and Ian.

Note

visit to the dietitian today. I have to start on a complete elimination diet (aka the "white diet"), until symptoms reduce, then start re-introducing things to work out exactly what I'm sensitive to, and what the dose response is... or that's the plan.
I think the food part will be ok, but I'm not allowed coffee, tea, chocolate, wine or beer. it's going to be tough, and I apologise in advance to anyone who encounters me during the caffeine withdrawal stage. At least I can still have gin.

foot quite sore first thing this morning. I suspect that a longer break from running is required.

Note

feeling terrible again today, but I get to see the dietitian tomorrow instead of waiting till july, thanks to a cancellation. hopefully there will be some progress soon!

Yoga 1:00:00 [2]

hot yoga. helen came to the class again - she's definitely improving.

Orienteering 55:13 [3] 5.4 km (10:14 / km)

club event at Hardings Paddock. didn't feel like doing too much, so bailed on running the longer course. HP isn't really big enough for much longer than 5k anyway. The course was set well to avoid the worst of the green and there were a few good route choices. the first half of the course went into areas that I hadn't really run in before (at least not from that direction), so it was good to get a different look at the area.
foot a bit sore afterwards.

Running 1:16:00 [3]

Run from my place, with Wendy, Katelyn and Mat. Very slow, and running cautiously to avoid hurting my foot.
Awesome breakfast afterwards, but then everyone left instead of going to get coffee.

rhr:52

back to the doc yesterday (although a new one) to try and figure out why I've been feeling so tired. current theory is that my food issues extend way beyond gluten intolerance, so it looks like I'm in for a long round of exclusion diets :-(

at least its some progress - sick of being told that if I'm not anemic there couldn't possibly be anything wrong and I must be imagining it.

Running intervals 15:00 [4]

Intervals at SMT, on my own tonight. I had low expectations but mainly just wanted to so something. it turned out to be a Blair-esque attempt at speedwork - trying to run reasonably hard, but not going very fast!
3x1km - in 4.14, 4.15, 4.20.

Hot yoga. Helen dragged me along to the class tonight. same instructor and it was a good complimentary class to the Monday one. Lots more ab work.

rhr:56 (injured) (sick)

And now I'm sick too.

Note

I got a doma account and have even managed to load some maps. I got around the easter races ok, but in the nsw long champs the next weekend I was clearly only orienteering part of the time.

Running 56:00 [2]
(injured)

Run from Clare's, with Clare and Katelyn (until I had to walk home), and James for the first 15 seconds.
I had low expectations of this run as my feet and ankle have been giving me some grief. a weird pain in my arches that's a little like plantar fasciitis but in the arch rather than under my feet, and a pinchy pain the front of my right ankle. The arch pain I can manage while I run, but the pinchy pain turned up after about half and hour so I had to walk home from there. very annoying to have another injury to worry about. I really just want to get on with training.

R ankle was a bit sore after running last night, and back has flared up a bit. The endless cycle of injury management continues.

Running hills (Anzac Park TT) 28:06 [5] 5.2 km (5:24 / km)

Its been a while (more than 2 yrs!) but I've decided to reinstate the anzac park time trial to Thursday evenings. The course has had an adjustment - the track on the hill behind the dog park is gone thanks to some works for the new tunnel, so the course now goes in front of the dog park and along the concrete track until the other side of the creek - both on the way out and back. I don't think this changes the overall time of the course that much - its a bit quicker running but also a bit longer.

I was hoping to get under 30 - established benchmark for an early season run. The run itself felt pretty bad, and that by the last few hills I was barely running, but the time was reasonable.

I ran with Lauren and Ingrid - their first run and they survived.

Running intervals 20:00 [5]

Short interval session at SMT, with Lauren and Ingrid. It was cold, and motivation was non-existent, but dragged my ass out anyway.

Aim was to do a reasonable session without irritating my stupid ankle. Got through the session, but it was a bit sore on the run home.
Pyramid session - 400 (1:28), 800 (3:03), 1200 (4:46), 800 (3:04), 400 (1:87), 400 (1:23).

rediscovered an app where you can measure heart rate by holding your finger over the flash on your phone. that is about the level of effort I'm capable of first thing in the morning, so might try to track RHR for a while and see if it tells me anything.

Yoga 1:00:00 [2]

hot yoga class. took Helen along this week for a laugh. she did really well and only needed a bit of extra instruction - mainly regular reminders to breathe.

Orienteering race 1:18:00 [4] 9.3 km (8:23 / km) +385m 6:57 / km

OY at Leyburn. Really nice area - interesting and runnable spur gully. This is the area they should have used at easter instead of the next hill over!

The course was really good - some interesting challenges and route choice options. I had a few wobbles - not climbing enough on 6 and doing a loop around the spur, then missing the route choice back across to 13 - the sides of the hill had heaps more rocky ground than was mapped - over the top of the hill would have been better.
My main mistake was in the vague area along the creek before 14 - I ran straight instead of along the track as the forest was really open, but there was an extra major creek and some other smaller detail which wasn't mapped. I got really confused and stopped for a while to try and relocate, but eventually just figured I hadn't gone far enough and kept running.

Physically felt a bit flat - could run ok but not hard, and concentration wasn't great. I had a bit of a niggle in the front of my right ankle after yesterdays run and it flared up after about half way today - it really didn't like contouring or running downhill. Will have to watch this.

Running 1:04:00 [3] 10.2 km (6:16 / km)

Run from my place, with Mark, Clare and Katelyn. We all decided an easier run than usual was in order - easing into the start of winter training... and winter has certainly put in an early appearance today! The porridge for breakfast was very nice to warm us up!

We haven't seen too much of Clare or Katelyn recently and I think they both found it a little harder than they would have liked, but I'm sure they'll be back in no time! I ran with Mark, but apparently had a completely different run. His was ploddy while mine was more like tempo pace. Ran frosties quite hard which was fun. still a bit useless on hills.

Good post run coffee at bean. One very cute puppy at the cafe, and one very big stupid jumpy dog.

chiro visit. lots of cracking today.

Note
(sick) (rest day)

Still very tired after two weekends of racing and have felt like I've been fighting off the flu for the last few days. I figure this week is as good as any for a week off.
Back is also starting to act up, so back to the chiro tmw.
