Day 5 at oringen. swamp fest. bit of a mission.

Day 3. toughest terrain yet, and lowest visability. struggling to run in the thick stuff, and making some dumb mistakes. got bitten by a wasp too. at least the sun has come out.

Oringen day 2. middle distance. similar run to yestie, with some good controls and some shockers, but managed to do the really hard bits at the start and finish quite well, and lost the plot on the easy ones in the middle. not holding direction in the vague stuff very well.

Oringen Day 1. Epic day - got into goteborg at midnight the night before, train to orebro and bus out to the event. got my start time changed to last start (13.30). ok run. a couple of really good controls and a couple of shockers. generally not too bad given the preparation. horrible cold rainy day - so glad I"m not camping!

girls ride at daisy hill. nice easy pace. good breakfast at the cafe afterwards.
was planning on heading out to the orienteering after breakfast, but the car wouldn't start at the cafe. starter motor gone. got it going with the help of racq, but decided not to risk trying to start it again out at the event (and was too late by then anyway).

pushups. tough session after a week off. 36, 40 (knew I was in trouble), 30, 24, then 3x20 instead of >40 max. will repeat this set before I move on.

short run from clares place with clare and kirra. horrible to start with, but then good after I warmed up. was tempted to run for longer, but need to make sure I get properly better first.
cold this morning. ran with a long sleaved shirt for the first time this winter.

long run from Rachels, also with Clare and Kirra, and Katelyn for the first part. Tired, and really not into it today. had been planning something longer, but just wasn't happening.

mouth ulcer that's been hanging round for a few days turned feral. feels like I've been kicked in the head. trip to the doc and some antibiotics. looks like I might be having a few days off.

same same. was pretty tired, and nearly didn't go out. tired legs running, but mainly limited by fatigue and not being able to run faster in the dark. I think its my fastest time this year, despite the dark.

same set as last week, a little bit quicker (which was surprising after sundays run), but hurt more at the end (not surprising after sundays run). 12x450m 30sec rec (60sec at halfway). seemed to get quite windy in the second half.

Orienteering race 2:21:00 [4] 13.0 km (10:51 / km)

long o on the old bullecourt/passchendaele maps from the 1982 aus champs. big loop around the doughnut, then a smaller loop through passchendaele. the pine forest has all been felled and re-planted and is now nice and runnable again, but the mapping is very old school - not wrong, but hard to interpret (any rock less than enormous is ignored - so some really rocky areas have nothing on the map).
started a few minutes behind neil, and passed him early on, but then nearly every control I'd spend a while in the circle trying to figure out the map, and neil would arrive just as I was leaving the control. ended up having a big search at 6, and neil eventually gave up, I found it after another couple of minutes. caught neil up again 2 controls later and the same pattern started again.
took a while to get going at the start, but pretty happy with how I was running. nav was a big off, but the 30yr old map didn't help. actually quite amazing how much the map hasn't changed - its mainly the mapping style that is a bit hard to interprete - treated it like a rogaine map at the end, which helped!
it was also a bit of a test to look at the area for a re-map for the 2016? aus champs - should be awesome! some cascades-like native forest, and lots of pine forest with granite.

camp champs at the qld junior camp, at sandy creek. running well, but forgot brain. wasted heaps of time on 5, and then a couple of other stupid mistakes. heaps of jumping cactus - stopping every couple of steps for a couple of controls, which really gave me the shits - probably got about 50 all up, and a few prickles got stuck in my feet - ow!

in the dark again, but nothing too freaky this time. worst thing that happened was the cable on my light coming out on the first downhill (a little alarming!). pretty tired this week, so struggled along a bit.
