Running 1:22:00 [3] 13.5 km (6:04 / km)

Run from Clare's. Pretty slow going to start with but ended up being an ok plod. Very tired. Very humid. Pool is cooling off but still had a swim after.

Orienteering race 57:21 [3] 7.1 km (8:05 / km)

Club event at Rawnsley park. no warm up, and took it pretty easy from the start - aim was for clean nav and to run the rubbish out of my legs from yesterday. I caught aislinn at 2 and we ran the rest of the way together. it was good to have the company and we cruised along pretty well. the mid section of the course was great terrain. some of the easiest running anywhere and very scenic. glad we stayed for it.

Orienteering race 2:12:31 [5] 18.3 km (7:14 / km)

NOL ultra long. Great area in the southern part of mannawarra. My race started out a bit rubbish - rushed getting ready (didn't read the bit about a 2k walk in) and didn't manage time for a warm up, pre race food or loo stop. but did make the start line. slow going from the beginning and after a couple of stupid mistakes I stopped for a wee, then took a gel at the first water control and things started to improve. ran steadily from mid-way on the first loop - speed wasn't really happening, but avoided any more time loses. ran with michele for a bit, then rachel. finally started to get things together and run well on the last loop and moved up a spot. nearly caught vanessa right at the end, but she got a better line into the final control and ended up 15 secs ahead.
distance was fine - I needed another loop! and I really enjoyed the terrain. a little more spring in the legs early on would have been nice.

Orienteering race 32:43 [5] 5.1 km (6:25 / km)

NOL middle - SA. Event on the northern part of the area that they were using for the ultra long, after the venue got changed mid week. the organising club did well to pull it together, but unfortunately managed to get a control in the wrong place - which was on nearly every course. It was our 3rd control, and after making a mistake on 2 (the map was a bit dodgy in that area) I had no confidence in how I was interpreting the terrain, or that things would be where I looked for them. it was also hard to keep racing given that the race should be cancelled and we had a long way to go tmw.

this was about as clear as it gets for a case where the results are unfair and the organiser should cancel the results, but the organisers ended just ignoring it and letting the results stand (and apparently talked someone out of putting in a complaint). very poor form.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Circuit training 30:00 [3]

4 hours on site trying to persuade our groundwater remediation system to go again. Lots of lifting concrete gatics and pulling pumps out of bores - all while trying not to stress my back out too much pre chiro visit.

Note

Chiro visit. Adjustment to lower back, which apparently should help my stupid knee thing, and lots of work on my upper back to straighten out my hunchback.

Orienteering race 41:15 [4] 3.9 km (10:35 / km)

Qld middle champs. Quinzeh rocks, which is an old area i remember from races 20 years+ ago. Was pine forest but got felled and has regrown. Map is a bit scrappy but ok terrain and close to bris. Run was average. Got some bits fine but lost at least 4 mins cos i wasn't paying enough attention in low viz areas.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2]

Warm up. Warm down got hijacked by aus champs planning meeting.

Running 40:00 [3]

Cruise around anzac park. legs felt much springier than expected, but still got a couple of niggles.
Night o event was on while I was running - heaps of beginners milling in gullies at the start of the forest not having a clue.

rogaine 2:39:00 [4] 18.1 km (8:47 / km) +800m 7:12 / km

3hr rogaine at bunya. on the 1:15000 orienteering map. did this with James as a hit out before the ultra long in 2 weeks time. the course looked clearable - as long as we didn't stuff up and the controls were in the right place. things went well early (amusing start - straight off the gun we got burnt by another mixed pair... who then took a wrong turn at the first possible opportunity). Lost about 10 mins early in middle third - control may have been too high on the hill, and by halfway through the controls it was looking doubtful as to whether we'd clear the course. kept things together pretty well till the end and got in with 20mins to spare.

I faded in the last half hour - an extra gel would have been good (2 wasn't enough). the heat was also getting to me. finished 4 mins ahead of the other team who cleared the course.

Orienteering race 23:48 [4] 4.0 km (5:57 / km)

Final cyclones sprint at St Peters. David set the courses, which ended up being a bit long, but were certainly challenging and fun. The map could definitely do with an update - I added a new building, and David said the rest was ok.. but it really isn't anymore. looks like I've got a bit of homework to do then - it also needs to have the scale changed to 1:4000.

Running intervals 20:00 [5]

SMT intervals. First time since before woc last year. Pretty hurty, and certainly not quick. but got it done, although things were getting a bit sketchy at the end.
10 x 400m on 2min starts. 93, 90, 89, 90, 90, 90, 92, 94, 97, 100

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Yoga 1:00:00 [2]

Hot yoga. Needed it after the weekend.

Sunday Apr 3, 2016 #

Orienteering 1:07:00 [4] 5.1 km (13:08 / km)

Mt coottha. Forest was quite clear but the course was up and down all the hills. Legs were tired after yesterday.
One mistake - read 13 to 14 instead of 3 to 4. My excuse is that a bird shat on my hand and map going into 3 and i was more worried about cleaning it off than reading where i was.

Running long 2:05:00 [3] 16.5 km (7:35 / km) +360m 6:50 / km

Long run in border ranges np. Went for a day out on Dan's new bike. He bribed me with a run opportunity, but unfortunately by the time the run was done we had no time for a pub lunch.

Run started at the caldera rim and heading down one creek, a couple of ks on the road into the next valley. Run went from 1100m to 350m with a short sharp 150m gain on the road. The track was ok but little used, slippery and overgrown. Nice day out in the rainforest.
