Orienteering 18:55 [3]

NOL Sprint @ Newcastle Uni
Cool sprint area and really fun course! Started with a few hesitations but nothing too major, just very stop-start through to 7. I think I was in about 3rd at this stage but just gradually dropped back through the field with mistakes and probably got slower too. Took some silly route choices - on the long one (saw the foot bridge but convinced myself the road was smoother - which turned out to be the opposite) and ones like to 13 I think - where I went through the purple passage but then had to go further around than I thought. Also pretty bad after the spectator. Annoyed with all the small mistakes, really enjoyed it though!

Orienteering 43:00 [3]

NOL Middle

A pretty bad run... ok-ish though to 7 then majoy blowout on the boulder in the quarry. Just couldn't think what it was going to be like and should have just kepy going until I hit the quarry but I stopped about 30 metres too short and then did a grid search even though nothing was fitting. Lost a few minutes there. Ok for the next few but did crazy things like head straight to the railway line to get to the first spectator but after 30metres changed my mind and head back in to the long grass. After the spectator I made several mistakes of 1-2 minutes and was just orienteering really badly. Was a really fun area though and thought the terrain was nearly european style ;-)

Orienteering (Midweek Metro) 42:43 [3] 4.2 km (10:10 / km)

Bluetts

Didn't crack 10min/kms! An interesting little area out near Stromlo - quite rocky in places, pretty thick, low visibility and quite a bit of waist high stuff so it was pretty hard to lift your legs. So it was pretty slow going and I made little mistakes (~20-30") on about half of the controls! Worst was probably number 9 - a rock on a hillside and I was stumbling around for a couple of minutes. Was keeping pace with Michael Burt for the last few controls - he was walking and I was running and stuffing them up, haha. Anyway, I enjoyed the course and it was great to be out running around in the warmth.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [3]

With the girls. No time for a warm down

Running intervals 13:00 [3]

6 x 600m (with jog back to start, 4' cycle)
Slower than last week! I didn't have a watch but I was going through 400m in slower times and felt worse...and was further behind the others. In a bit of a hurry tonight so didn't stay for the 200s.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [3]

To the start

Orienteering (ACT long champs) 35:00 [3]

Oh dear! Was a massive wimp today. Scrambled through thick, prickly stuff for a while - found #4 before #3 (no they weren't even close, I just got lost half way there) and stuffed #6 by 5 or so mins. I'd already been out for what felt like ages so I unfolded the map to have a squiz, nearly had a heart attack, did the maths (most of the course to go, factor in several more 5min mistakes...) and I'd be out for ~2 hours. Hmmm, had a few reasons to get back in a timely fashion so pulled the pin. I'm just hopeless in this terrain - no aggression and also very bad at the actual orienteering. Headed towards the track and found a flock of gang gangs having a great old natter - Shep and Devil en route to a control and acejase heading home. Ran back with Jase - I hadn't actually run much of the course so was quite good to at least do something and it was mostly downhill too, bonus! A very crap effort by me today.
