Half day hiking with Tobias. Felt really tired and sleepy the whole time- I think I notice lack of iron most at altitude, and Tobias isn't great with altitude so we went at a nice gemütlich pace. Beautiful apls! (at about 2000m)
no knee feelings :)

Have hardly felt any complaints from knee since coming back from Italy and the the run yesterday so went out for hill intervals. All felt good :)
10x 20/10sec uphill.
2x 5min steep up to Luegeten with 5mins rec. down.
5x 2min with 2min rec.
Read WOC map towards the end of each and in rec. HR went up even higher as soon as I started looking at the map.
Heaveny summer, up to 30 today!!!! Maybe I iwll be able to do some out door pool running!

Running 20:00 intensity: (2:00 @1) + (4:00 @2) + (9:00 @3) + (5:00 @4)
ahr:143 max:160 shoes: Adidas Supernova boost

Short morning run before work, mainly because I wanted to have an idea of how my knee felt before going to the doctor with the MRI.
I was vaguely aware of a knee sensation in the first few mins but no pain or sharpness, then felt normal running for the rest though a little tentative at first. Up and down hill or terrain feels more confident than flat on the street, which is good!
Ran some uphills harder and did some stair drills for agility, all felt ok.

riding (commute) 30:00 [1]

rode harder with the MTB.
7 PM

riding (commute) 30:00 intensity: (23:00 @1) + (5:00 @2) + (2:00 @3)

Home with a bit in the foothills. Legs feeling a bit tired.

Strength 40:00 [0]

10mins VMO/quads
10mins various core/planking
15mins glutes/hips
5mins calves
So many more excercies I want/need to do but takes so much time!

Note

Got the report from my MRI from the doc, who confirmed the articular cartilage between the top of the knee cap and the femur is damaged/softened.. apparently chondromalacia (grade 3), patellofemoral pain syndrome, osteoarthritis or something like that.
Doc gave me some "cartilage fish" tablets.. which are supposed to help cartilage inflimation/regeneration.
Hopefully will go to sport med centre next week to get more specific advice/plan.
Strength (core, hip) important to take strss off the knees. I will continue running training, supplemented by pool running and cycling, but stop if I feel the pain. And try to take care of every other detail to ensure I am ready for WOC!

Long ride home from work, up throught the hills. Rode hard up the hills, felt like hard work for the legs but didn't get HR up much. Lovely evening and views, and still light at 9.30 pm!
Felt no knee pain today.

riding 1:10:00 [1]

commute to work, back home, to MRI appointment

Note

MRI scan. Showed some damage to cartilage at the top of my knee between knee cap and Femur (like small fissure or something). Not sure how severe it is, taking the MRI to the doctor on friday.
Impressed by the speed of the swiss meds, though it is emptying out my bank account.

water running 35:00 intensity: (12:00 @1) + (16:00 @2) + (7:00 @3)
ahr:134 max:150

10x 90/30
10x 30/15 (20 total intervals)

riding (commute) 30:00 intensity: (20:00 @1) + (10:00 @2)

Note

Doctor visit
Xray of the knee which showed nothing as I expected and arranged MRI for tomorrow.
Also surprised to find out that my iron (Ferratin 8) is back down as low as before the Infusion only 2 months ago! Can't have infusions every 2 months, so have some tables which should be a steadier option. I am considering having one more infusion so I will have enough iron in me at WOC as the tablets take a while to work.
