walking 2:00:00 [1]

Long slow walk to a hut up in the Dolomites. Body feeling better, but have a cough.

Sunday Jul 13, 2014 #

Note
(sick) (rest day)

Feeling better than yesterday but still really tired and sore throat/glands.

Running 10:00 [4]

Test run in the morning with Elin. Legs felt better than expected (i.e. didn't feelilike colapsing going down the stairs, like yesterday) but HR was very high at easy effort (basically as high as when doing intervals) and really hurt. So no chance of running the relay, although I felt better enough to come and watch.

Note
(sick)

Feeling very weak and horrible, even getting out of bed and walking is an effort. Couldn't even think about running. Spectated the middle from bed, course looked like heaps of fun, didn't seem quite real watching it.
Probably can't tell until tomorrow morning if I will be able to run for the relay.

Running 5:00 [1]
(sick)

Went for a little walk in the sun, then tried to jog a bit but felt too awful. Thought the blocked nose feeling I woke up with might clear but feeling worse throughout the day. I haven't been sick, let alone this bad, for a long time.
Decided not to run the middle tomorrow, to give me a better chance of being ok for the relay. If only I had had the guts to not run yesterday instead. Lesson learnt to follow my instinct.

Note

Feeling worse in the evening, fever and aches again.

orienteering 1:38:00 [4]
(sick)

WOC Long distance. This was an anticlimax considering how much I have looked forward to this race and that I felt so well trained/prepared until I got sick two days ago. I didn't feel much better this morning and really didn't want to run, but felt I should for the team.
About 30mins before the start I managed to get positive, aiming to focus 100% control after control, run steady no stress. I was pretty happy with my route choices and navigation. Just a few small losses. Had a few girls run past but I couldn't push any harder. Some parts felt good but the hills and towards the end I was just empty.
Hopefully I can recover for the middle and relay.
Hanny did really well to come 13th, wouldn't have needed my run for points in the end.
43rd, 18:30 behind

Running 10:00 [3]

warm up
warm down consisted of shower, food, bed

orienteering 20:00 [2]
(sick)

walk/jog around the Long model map. The forest seems very runnable and map nice to read.
Body felt a bit better than yesterday but still tired and a bit achey, throat and head are still quite sore.

Monday Jul 7, 2014 #

Note
(sick)

Woke in the middle of the night with a sore throat and didn't sleep well. Seemed to come on suddenly as I felt good yesterday.
So I'm spending the day relaxing and gargling, and spectating the sprint relay from the hotel :( Good luck Aussie team!!
Feeling tired and a bit achey in addition to the sore throat, generally the feeling that my body is fighting something off.
Really I hope up tomorrow feeling back to normal...
