Walking 2:54:54 [3] 15.0 km (11:40 / km) +276m 10:41 / km
shoes: ASICS GT2000

Exploring Trysil (while John took the others back to Oslo to catch planes or pick up bikes) Mountainbike/blueberry heaven. Intended having a casual look around Trysil but ended up walking 15km around the 2 bridges, in my jeans! Beautiful walk by Klaralven River on way south, but lots of road walking on my return.

Orienteering race 36:03 [3] 3.66 km (9:51 / km) +89m 8:47 / km
shoes: VJ Bolds - Tim's!

Oringen Etapp 5 - Chasing start through the marshes. Plan was to try and catch 5 people....so pretty pleased to improve from 63rd to 53rd :) Was a bit worried at the start as I had forgot my glasses - but the scale was fine without & the sun was shining. Still a bit hesitant into the circles 53/185 - 29% :)

Orienteering race 39:29 [3] 3.6 km (10:58 / km) +118m 9:25 / km

Oringen Etapp 4 -Chairlift to the start of this race & they were kind to the old ladies doing the Kort courses by letting us finish at the top of the slope, then an untimed walk to the finish chute :) It was raining and not that pleasant to begin. Stopped myself making an error following Oringen tracking on the way to #1. Pretty pleased with the rest of my race - just a bit slow to the second last control where it was in some rocky vegetation. Only ran an extra 400m to straight line course. 63/181 (35%)

JALT + M - Joined most of the Oringen orienteers walking to Sweden's highest waterfall- Njupeskar-...In fact there were so many cars there was queue to the carpark, so we did a u-turn and drove back to park & added a bonus 3km to our total walk! Great walk to base, then a loop around the top.

Orienteering race 42:33 [3] 3.2 km (13:18 / km) +58m 12:12 / km
shoes: VJ Bolds - Tim's!

Oringen - Etapp 3 Dalarna Terrain had more forest/tricky detail. Chose a silly attack point for #5 using edge of a hill, so when I ran past a small lake I checked my map to see where I was & realised the lake was a more obvious attack point!! Muddled around on what should have been one of my easier controls #6 by over complicating my attackpoint - used a spur so stopped too soon. 105/183 (57%)

Orienteering race 40:11 [3] 3.66 km (10:59 / km) +69m 10:02 / km
shoes: VJ Bolds - Tim's!

Oringen Etapp 2 Darlena. The heather was like a springy trampoline....so I couldn't walk-had to do lots of sneaky jogging today. Dropped too low for first control - but had a nice feature to set me in the correct direction. Also muddled up the uphill leg by drifting along the top of the wrong re-entrant. I was slow and careful on the down hill leg (to look after my knee & also took a little diversion to make sure of my attackpoint before heading into the featureless forest.) Laura called out to me on the 2nd to last control & I finished slightly ahead of her cos I was still able to jog. 10 mins per km. Glad to say my knee is barely twinging at all now. Been looking at my errors on Quick Route - tending to not use the contours well - will have to work on that while I am doing all this walking. Not walking meant I improved 38 places to 90/183 (49%)
Rookie mistake of the day - sat on a nice raised piece of ground to remove stone from shoe and discovered that the term, 'ants in your pants' feels bitey/stingy and not tickly or fidgetty!!!

Orienteering race 48:39 [3] 3.85 km (12:38 / km) +43m 11:58 / km
shoes: VJ Bolds - Tim's!

Oringen Etappe 1 - Malung-Salen.
Just mucked up the 3rd control when I used an indistinct track...that turned out to be a new "Oringen track' caused by the sheer numbers of orienteers who had run that route to another control. Lesson learnt, use other features to navigate by! I also blame the fact that after walking so successfully to the first 2 controls I tried jogging & ran further than I needed! Met Laura walking in the finish chute, while I was sneaky jogging, so we jogged in together :) My knee is feeling better each day, unfortunately hers is taking longer to fix. So we will continue our walking races...she managed 10min km pace, while I did 12.39min kms!! 128/181 (71%)

Corstophine - Last of the seven hills (though if you note the elevation, this would not count as a hill in NZ), with Laura & John, before we caught our plane to Norway.

To Stockbridge (via Royal Mail, Grange Rd) to get one more taste of Coco's hot chocolates. Back via the Mound & Royal Mile. Sad to think our last full day in Edinburgh.
