Orienteering race (WA Champs - Day 1) 39:24 [4] **** 6.3 km (6:15 / km) +190m 5:26 / km
spiked:10/12c slept:9.0 shoes: VJ Falcons

Not the best start to the week. Felt ok at the warm up, and focused at the start. But for reason lacked a lot of confidence... and the time I lost was mainly due to that, not navigation errors. Lost over a minute on control 3, a long contour leg.. didn't see the watercourses I thought I should so started to worry, slowed down and tried to figure it out... when I should have just kept heading to the big spur which i was gonna hit eventually anyway. Then lost another minute or two on the long leg 5... mainly scrappy leaving 4 and finding a way up the hill. Had a good finish through the technical section, gained confidence there... but by 10 was feeling the effects of yesterday badly.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [1]

Warm up to start and jog afterwards

slept:4.0

Flew to WA. Flight was fine, but the rest of the day was a struggle. Troubles with cars, trouble with accommodation, no food all day and generally a lot of stress. Definitely not a good transition to the competition. Was ok by night tho.

Running 30:00 [3] 6.0 km (5:00 / km)
slept:9.0 shoes: Nike Zoom

Evening run around the trails at home. Knee much better than last two days, but still feeling a bit weak and unsteady. Not much pain, just annoying. Apart from that feeling pretty good after the weekend and the last two days rest. Still probably not feeling as good as I wanted to the week before nationals... but oh well. Included some intervals.

Running intervals (~800m Acton Trail) 6:00 [5] 1.6 km (3:45 / km) +60m 3:09 / km
shoes: Nike Zoom

2:43 and 2:45 with roughly 6 minute recovery between. Knee felt a bit worse during and after intervals.

Note
(rest day)

Knee bit better today, but again was really busy trying to finish assignment so thought another rest day would fit in well.

Note
(rest day)

Unplanned rest day, really busy at uni. But probably a good thing because my right knee feels really weak, unco n a bit sore walking around today. Didn't feel it as bad yesterday.

Orienteering race (Tas Relay Champs) 38:17 [5] **** 5.6 km (6:50 / km) +200m 5:48 / km
spiked:13/17c slept:8.0 shoes: VJ Falcons

Second leg runner in the star WROC relay team with Bernard and Emma. Emma handed over a few minutes (5?) down on the leaders... so was able to run by myself. Hit the line of rock at the 1st a bit off, but was able to correct straight away. Steady but direct through detailed rock at 2, 3 and 4 (bad route choice at 4). Lost 1 min of 4 looking on a lower line of cliffs on the hillside. Knew 5 was going to be tricky and needed care (longer leg across green & marsh to rocky hillside with numerous gullies), but didnt actually slow down at all. Got to the two small green gullies before the control but didn't stop to check direction so drifted above to control to a very similar bunch of rocks. Lost 4ish minutes, had to run up to the top of the hill to relocate quicker. Really concentrated after that mistake tho and finished much faster. Lost another 30 secs at 9 cause I didn't see the control on the rockface before searching around the others for it. Managed to pick us up to 1st, but Grace starting to run the second loop in the wrong direction had something to do with that. Unforunately Bernard lost a 1-2 min lead (in the same area where I had troubles) to Louis, so we finished 2nd. Good result against the much more advantaged and fancied Australopers team.

Orienteering (Collecting Controls) 30:00 [1] 3.0 km (10:00 / km)

Fun in the rain :(
