Cycling 32:25 [2] 5.86 mi (10.8 mph) +53m

Rainy test ride of a road bike that I had my eye on. Liked the bike, so I bought it! It’s used, but in good condition. Very excited about this purchase!

Orienteering race 1:49:02 [3] 9.15 mi (11:55 / mi) +156m 11:19 / mi
shoes: VJ Bold (pink)

Ibex at Fishtrap. This was SO much fun! I skipped 2 and 16, which ended up working out very well for me. Skipping so early put me in the lead until 7, where I punched right behind Boris (who had skipped 6). We ran together for pretty much the rest of the race, meeting up with Ali and Ben around 10 (they skipped 9). I was running probably the hardest I had been all week, and it was a ton of fun to be pushed by others! At times I was just trying to hang on as best I could. Ali, Boris, and I all skipped 16 at the end, and I just didn’t have enough kick to fight for it all the way to the end, but I’m super happy and satisfied with this race!

Unexpected adventure ride after my longest, hardest orienteering effort of the week…
My car broke down a little ways east of Coeur d’Alene. The check engine light had turned on when I stopped in Post Falls for gas, but I assumed it was the same thing that it was when it was on the week before, and that it wasn’t too terribly urgent. However, my car and steering wheel got shakier and shakier, eventually it sounded AWFUL, and the check engine light started blinking urgently at me. I pulled over immediately, and checked the one thing I was most worried about: oil. Nothing left. The dipstick was completely dry. Well, shoot!
A very kind man stopped to see if I needed anything, but he didn’t have any oil, and he had a meeting to get to, so he wasn’t able to give me a ride. I didn’t want to drive my car any further, so my options were to hitchhike or to pull out my mountain bike. Solo hitchhiking as a young woman isn’t something that I’m very comfortable with, so I opted for a long cruise on the mountain bike back to Coeur d’Alene to pick up some oil.
Google maps took me on a wild ride: 1 mile on the freeway, paved roads, gravel roads, private property (?), a short mountain bike trail (glad I had the mountain bike!), past some drag racing (well, more like they zoomed past me), and the Idaho part of the centennial trail. And then all of that back to the car after I found some oil! I was going pretty quickly, since the clouds looked ominous and I didn’t want to get rained on, and I really didn’t want to ride the last freeway stretch in the dark after sunset.
All in all, it turned out, and my car made it back to Bozeman in a semi-functional state. Freeway biking sucks, but I’m grateful didn’t have to do the whole ride on I-90. It could have been worse. My legs are thoroughly tired from this day!

Fishtrap middle. Good race for me! Felt slow physically, but I had really good map contact, which was what I wanted for today. Small bobbles and hooks but I always knew exactly where I was, even when I wasn’t exactly where I wanted to be.

Easy ride along the Centennial Trail with my parents, starting from Riverfront Park. This is an awesome trail, and it goes so far! Saw o' friends at the playground, too :)

Camp Seven Mile at Riverside State Park. I had a nice long jog with the map, looking for the trails missing from the map and following some trails that were mapped. Ready for a rest day tomorrow!

Orienteering race 22:36 [4] 2.29 mi (9:52 / mi) +49m 9:16 / mi

Sprint at Manito park. This was a fun mix of open grassy park and some more forest-y type hills with cliffs! Some mistakes throughout.

Hot and sunny at Saltese Uplands. I haven’t orienteered here before, so it was good to get onto the map. My body is pretty fatigued though, and this was a long time out in the sun. Might only do one course tomorrow.

Orienteering race 22:39 [4] 2.75 mi (8:14 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Launch 6 - Coral

Sprint at the rival school! I was running in heavy rain, a little bit of hail, and then finally it let up. This was fun but I was also definitely feeling my lack of running fitness.

Orienteering race 1:25:51 [3] 6.55 mi (13:06 / mi) +237m 11:47 / mi

Long at Lubrect. I had a clean race! Slow with some little bobbles, but I'm really happy with this run.
3 PM

Mountain Biking warm up/down 1:00:00 [1] 4.3 mi (4.3 mph) +98m

MTB-O is hard! Picked up controls on my bike (left the bike on the trail though). I'm not sure I would do control pickup on my bike again, but it was kind of fun to try.

Orienteering race 42:56 [4] 3.43 mi (12:31 / mi) +51m 11:58 / mi

Middle at Lubrect Experimental Forest. My race wasn't great, and I definitely had some significant mistakes, but I had fun!

Orienteering warm up/down 34:07 [2] 2.69 mi (12:41 / mi) +44m 12:04 / mi

Cool down with a reverse Yellow, looking for Aunt Dorothy. I didn't find her, but apparently she came back just before I returned, and she got all the controls!
