After yesterday's garbage, today went well. I was pushing and navigating well. Everything was lining up and I was having fun and really racing.
Had a small bobble going in to 3, where a lot of people were headed to the boulder to the west. I almost followed them, stopped in my tracks, and turned around to hit the cliff. Disaster avoided.
Had a 1 minute mistake at 5, where I thought that I would have to go down and then back up to the hill where the control was. If I had looked closer at the map, I would have seen that I shouldn't have gone down at all, just up the hill at the end. Whoops. I ended up a bit SW of the control, but realized my mistake without too much trouble. Another girl kept heading in the wrong direction.
And then I didn't think I made a mistake at 7, but looking at my GPS track, I definitely did. After hitting the road intersection, instead of turning to head W, I kept on going NW for a while, and kind of looped into the control.
Also it looked like I ran through the thickest parts of the green on my way to 9. Oops. I was just trying to head out to the trail quickly. I should have navigated a bit more on this leg.
I'm very happy with this overall. I was just over 1 minute away from winning the C final. Ah well.

Absolute trash. Had a three minute mistake on the first control and a four minute mistake on the third. Ouch. Somehow I was able to push it out of my head until I finished, so the rest of my race was clean, albeit slow because I was not about to mess up again.
1. Got pushed off my line by tracks through the woods and a reentrant that I thought was mine. Could have been fixed if I checked and followed my compass. When I hit a control on a rock that wasn't mine, I planted 2 feet on the ground. I was not about to run around wildly. Figured out where I was, but I didn't check my compass when going up and over the hill to get to the actual control, so I got off a little bit again on my way into the actual control. Fix: COMPASS. Also, follow big obvious features as much as possible, especially early in the race. I could have stayed close to the field earlier, and it would have been much better.
3. Didn't quite go far enough into the green to get to my hill. Looped around for a little bit, then popped back out, but went down into the green, which was a bad idea. I should have headed NE up onto a hilltop where there would have been more visibility. Fix: Relocate up on high features with good visibility. Not in green. Also, in green it feels like you're going a lot further than you actually are. If I had kept going just a tad, I would have hit it.
So it's C final for me. The past two years I was B final, so this is a very disappointing step down. I took a nice long nap after my race, which improved my mood, and I'm looking to crush the C final tomorrow.
