I didn't have my battery pack light with me, so I had two night jogging lights, which were okay on the trails, but did not really cut it in the forest, so movement was slow...plus, a little freaked out by all the deer in the woods, starring me down as I was running!!! At least I didn't run into any moose...John did (eesh). Orienteering, once I got used to the lights, was going relatively well except for leaving the 4th control: my body wanted to go straight, my compass kept telling me to go right, and I kept trying by I kept ending up moving left again. That caused a relocation error (and some time).

Ugh -
Good start. Clean and focused to the 1st control, bobbled the second but only by 20ish seconds. Refocused and clean again until the next long leg. Knew I had to have a strong attackpoint point after crossing the open area, and I did, but read the cliff incorrectly and drifted left and then went way past the control to the trail, immediately realized what I did and then had to circle around. Mentally defeated and then a little bobbly to the next control. Boo...
according to Garmin, actual distance run - 5.47km ...stupid....
Did not feel strong at all. Tired right from the start of the race, struggling getting through the terrain. I have been feeling very slow and stiff in the legs lately. Need to do more strength training.. time for winter gympa!
