Soooo, QuickRoute is pretty awesome.

Running 5:35 [1] 0.51 mi (10:52 / mi) +1m 10:48 / mi

Warmup

Orienteering race 1:14:54 [5] 4.65 mi (16:06 / mi) +212m 14:06 / mi

Winter Series Champs.

I felt quite good about many of my route choices and executions, but had a few legs that were rough, causing me to miss the podium by ~ 2 minutes. My goal was to plan ahead - know what I was going to do on the next leg before I started that leg. I faired pretty well on this goal in the middle half of the race (#4 through #11). I felt like I chose wisely in terms of when to cut off trail and when to stay on trail, and I executed my plans.

Early in the race I was thrown off by the very short leg to #1, and then the longer leg to #2 with definite route choice to be had. My route to #2 looked better on paper than in reality....lost a bit of time stumbling up the steep, loose earth hill.

And then #3, the first part of my route choice was poor (headed down the hill to the NE to hit a trail, even though I was going to end up at a trail junction to the NW - added distance for sure). And then execution within the circle was poor. I had to bail back out to a trail and relocate. In retrospect, I was probably within 20 ft of the control when I decided to relocate! I probably lost 2.5 - 3 min here.

I lost a little time on #12 cutting off trail (there was a better trail option), and didn't compass closely enough when I cut off for #13 so I hit the trail beyond the control and had to re-attack from there.

Overall: fun new map, and fun challenging course! This map had a great arena for the finish (an amphitheater) and the lodge was great for awards. I saw bald eagles, the sun came out, volunteering at the finish went well, and I got to see lots of friends. Good day.

Running up and down 3rd is pretty boring, but it gets the job done.

The exciting thing about tonight's run was that I ran after getting home from work at 5pm, and it wasn't all the way dark when I finished. The light, the longer days, they are coming!!

Volleyball 2:00:00 [5]

Mikasa Tukasa went 5-1 tonight! 5 wins. What the heck?!

Seriously crazy, and so much fun! I was setting all night so I got a great workout and everyone was playing well, communicating, etc. We felt so in sync. Amazing. I kept wondering when we'd crack and crash like we usually do, but we continued playing well. I was getting good passes, and therefore setting pretty cleanly.

I celebrated by eating 3 tacos at post-vball taco night instead of 2 :)

Sprint Camp Sunday - Setup Race (Race #4)

Holy stair climbs, batman! Having so much climb this late in the weekend was rough. This wasn't my best race either. Less than optimal route choice on one long leg, and made a silly mistake on #6 cutting into the woods too early and tromping around the spur to the control. Probably lost a minute there.
11 AM

Orienteering race 25:13 [5] 2.16 mi (11:41 / mi) +45m 10:58 / mi

Race #5 - The Chase! It was fun to watch the elites, and I was okay being in the mass start to be honest. The attention of being at the back of the chase sounds too stressful!

I felt really good about this race, less #18. I felt focused, my legs felt good (oddly enough), and I was making smart choices with regard to following versus not. Until I followed folks the wrong way going to #18. I recovered okay, but definitely lost time there.

Mass starts are still crazy, and not my favorite, but I didn't let it get to me as badly this time!

Orienteering 51:51 intensity: (26:51 @0) + (25:00 @4) 2.45 mi (21:12 / mi) +55m 19:49 / mi

Dice-O!

What fun, and what a great way to take my mind of how exhausted I was.
