Orienteering race (SHI Relay) 1:00:55 intensity: (44 @1) + (21:11 @2) + (39:00 @3) 8.6 km (7:05 / km) +114m 6:39 / km
ahr:162 max:173 (injured) shoes: inov-8 oroc 280

Ankle wasn't good but couldn't have lived with myself if I didn't manage to finish a race so used a lot of ankle tape and got ready to run. Hit the first two cleanly so despite only being able to run at a reduced pace I was still in contact with the other runners, then made a couple of small misses though and was well off the back. Then ran clean until the final loop where i lost two minutes on each of the last two tricky controls.

Unfortunately Ed had stubbed his toe and couldn't run so we didn't have a full team but at least I got around a course for Wales.

Orienteering race (SHI Individual) 43:57 intensity: (9 @0) + (1:46 @1) + (31:01 @2) + (11:01 @3) 6.01 km (7:19 / km) +153m 6:29 / km
ahr:158 max:170 (injured) shoes: inov-8 oroc 280

Was really up for this, started fairly well and hit the first control cleanly, picked a good exit and was checking what my next contact point would be when my ankle went. Not too bad I thought I would just run it off and gave it a go but just couldn't manage the rocky, tussocky ground, eventually grounding to a halt at control 6 from where I limped home.

Massively disappointed to end my Wales debut this way.

Must be a record slowest time for this loop, lacking any energy. Planning a big feed tonight in the hopes of an energy boost for tomorrow.

Still feeling rubbish but moving okay, helped considerably by the mostly downhill route. Just can't shake this cold...

Running 38:52 intensity: (34 @0) + (32:05 @1) + (6:13 @2) 6.35 km (6:07 / km) +195m 5:18 / km

Little jaded from the race yesterday but Rivelin perked me up. Couple of points worth noting.

- hamstrings a bit tight
- slight calf niggle

Both of which suggest that my glutes are not working so will try to be a bit more aware of that and do some remedial work.

- surprisingly low max hr considering the tough hill up from Rivelin
- still have some cold symptoms

Both suggest that my immune system is still battling so need to be careful to take it easy this week (at least until the weekend).

Running warm up/down 17:04 intensity: (23 @0) + (4:11 @1) + (10:18 @2) + (2:12 @3) 2.89 km (5:54 / km) +66m 5:18 / km

Orienteering race 1:11:34 intensity: (6 @0) + (20 @1) + (5:12 @2) + (46:16 @3) + (19:31 @4) + (9 @5) 12.27 km (5:50 / km) +374m 5:04 / km
ahr:172 max:185 shoes: inov-8 oroc 280

Pretty happy with that, little time lost but the area was dead easy, if I was picky I should have been more disciplined on a couple of the legs into vague areas.

Good hit out before next weekend's races.

Note

23rd out of 133 today, great field, now why wasn't today also the UK Cup final?

ahr:140 max:160 shoes: Inov-8 Road-X 233

Felt rubbish most of the day and found myself getting to the evening contemplating making another start after missing a day. Its a slippery slope once you start giving in to these sort of excuses so I htfu and got out the door. Hopefully start feeling better soon!

Feeling quit under the weather today, in fact 2/3's of team Candy is below par at the moment but Jessica is more than making up for mum and dad's lack of vitality.

Back on the wagon after falling off over the weekend. Interesting how much tougher it was to get back on than it had been to stay on. Certainly the motivation of building a streak was really effective in getting me out the door but perhaps the downside is the thoroughly demotivating effect of the streak coming to an end. It is perhaps lucky that the streak had been mediocre which lends itself well to a new goal to 'beat' the previous streak. Certainly highlighted the need for supplementary goals (which I have) to aid in motivation should external factors get in the way of the goal to build the streak. In general certainly more positives rather than negatives have come out of it so far so time to get back on the wagon.

Note
(rest day)

Wiped out after a horrific day yesterday, feel much, much better and managed to get out to cheer on Kelly who had a great race at the Great Yorkshire 10km with 41:58. New streak will start tomorrow.

Saturday Oct 8, 2011 #

Note
(sick)

Disappointing, new streak may have to start tomorrow, today is not looking at all likely.

Bad, bad stomach today but luckily not as bad as Kelly was on Monday night. Managed the absolute bare minimum at a crawl. Felt immediately a lot worse but now a couple of hours later feel much better for having got out.

ahr:152 max:169 shoes: Inov-8 Road-X 233

Yesterday wearing shorts and t-shirt and wishing I hadn't already packed away all my vests for Australia.

Today was thinking the jacket I was wearing might be overkill but ended up regretting not wearing a hat and gloves.

On a positive note my resolve could have been tested by the wind, rain and at times stinging sleet but got out without a second thought.
