Orienteering race (World Masters Long Final) 1:31:31 [5] *** 13.3 km (6:53 / km) +191m 6:25 / km
spiked:28/33c shoes: Innov-8 X-Talon 212

Another decent run, lost about 5 minutes on about 5 controls but that was less than most others on the tricky dunes map. Got caught by Greg Flynn and Karl Dravitski at #4 and #6 but lost them straight away in the green. So the whole course I was on my own. Thought the top 3 guys had run through me and I was out the back but turned out they all screwed up #4 plus others. Finished 6th again, one of my better O results in recent years.

That ends 11 races in 2 weeks. So after a pretty bad Oceania, ran much better in Rotorua and then better again at World Masters. Who'd of thunk that practice makes you improve.

Orienteering race (World Masters Long Qual2) 1:09:03 [5] *** 10.1 km (6:50 / km) +169m 6:19 / km
spiked:21/24c shoes: Innov-8 X-Talon 212

Good run, just a few 30-60 secs errors which is good for me on a technical sand dune map. Got caught 1 min by Karl at #5, ran with him till #9 then we split at the long leg to #10 only to see him again later. From there we caught another 5 or so runners and the huge train stuffed #14 and #15 both overrunning except Karl got them cleanly and got away. The rest of us ran the rest of the course pretty much together. I overran the 2nd last hitting the finish before having to back-track. Finished 6th again and safely through to final.

Orienteering race (World Masters Long Qual1) 1:14:00 [5] *** 11.5 km (6:26 / km) +184m 5:57 / km
spiked:21/24c shoes: Innov-8 X-Talon 212

Not a great start, losing 45 secs on #1. Was one knoll left and not far off it. Then even though I tried to take the long sand dune leg easy down by the beach still stuffed it. Couldn't really work out what was going on. Lost 4 minutes. Rune Olsen caught me 5 min a couple controls later after he stuffed that leg. Managed to keep with him for about 3 controls, I took a bush option where he went round and managed to catch him. Then was dropped quickly on the huge leg but I ended up running through about 6-7 runners through the last half. Last 45 minutes was good except a minor hesitation on #19. Felt like I had a bit more in me but just wanted to make sure I qualified safely. O seems to have got loads better with each race this trip. Ended up 6th, much better than I ever expected but a fair bit back on 5th.

Orienteering race (World Masters Sprint Fina) 17:20 [5] *** 3.7 km (4:41 / km) +43m 4:26 / km
spiked:23/24c shoes: Asics Kayano 22 (Black)

Another good run for me, although I missed the turnoff to #8 and went long way round (20 secs). Got caught by Karl Dravitski a few controls later and ran 2nd half with him who was much faster. Got a little confused at the tunnel spitting us out further than expected, not sure that's mapped right. Finished 7th which is as good as I could hope for.

Orienteering race (World Masters Sprint Qual) 18:24 [5] *** 3.65 km (5:02 / km) +38m 4:47 / km
spiked:24/26c shoes: Asics Kayano 22 (Black)

Good run, only losing small amounts of time mainly on route choice on a detailed map where it was hard to pick the gaps on some of the legs. Maybe lost 30 secs all up on about 4-5 controls. Came 8th and qualified for final :)
