Race 6 at Knocklofty
Good run today only slow from the cooperation of my legs (or lack thereof). Nailed all controls except #6 where I was too high ad there was another earth wall and a bunch of mounds up high as well as down low which looked the same on the map as the lower one did which confused me. Keen for a sleep-in tomorrow!

Race 4 at Battery Point
Good run today and no rain was great! More like a street-o than a sprint. No errors today as the options for route choice were fairly straight forward so the only thing that let me down was my running speed which seems to be decreasing as I get more tired, fair enough.
The whole area was really nice - keen for the markets here on Saturday!

Race 5 at Risdon Brook
Okay run today, not horrific but not so great either. I think I need a rest for my legs but also for my brain. Starting to make a few stupid errors. Going to #2 I wasn't really focused so I was confused by the track junction that came earlier than I was expecting it, then going to #5 I took a bearing and would've hit the control had I not though "this can't possibly be it" and headed a few hundred metres uphill where there was another control on the western side of a knoll, same description but different number. Figured out from the number of people coming to that control from further down the hill that maybe the right control was down there. Was too low going to #7 and #9 but the rest were good.
The dam looked so inviting, if only it wasn't so cold down here!

Race 2 at Mt Nelson
Should've worn my swimming togs! Wet wet wet! The tracks has turned into creeks and the creeks into rivers. Pretty good run today considering the weather. My goal was to simplify as much as I could and instead straight lining everything to try using tracks and attack points more.
Started the course with a 180 as soon as I left the start flag as everything looked the same. The maze was confusing but also good fun and a different challenge which was good. At #7 the fence was practically invisible and there was a bunch of us looking for it at the time. Lots of scrubby spiky stuff to slow you down going to #8 and going to #11 the creek was now so wide that it was hard to distinguish it from the green on the sides.
Running in the rain was fun at the time but wet shoes this afternoon won't be :(

Race 3 at Seven Mile Beach
What an adventure! First time ever orienteering on sand dunes and I was so glad that Greg Chatfield had told me that morning to try and keep contact the whole time as otherwise I would've gotten incredibly lost. Horizontal rain and lots of wind added to the strangeness of the place though luckily the main part of the map was fairly sheltered.
Overall an ok run, kept getting confused by the north lines on my map which caused me to do a 180 on the way to #10 and another to #11. Almost forgot to go to #6 and #7 was just hard to find. The pine tree that #8 was on looked pretty similar to all the other pine trees around it and seemed like a bit of a silly control but was still challenging to find. The wind going to #12 was not fun to run against. I think I need to look at my compass more and check it with my map more - I think I've gotten a bit slack with this recently...
After running this I think we really need to do some more training on sand dunes in qld!

Race 1 at UTAS Sandy Bay
Pretty good run today - my goal was to not loose contact and that worked out well. Only 2 major errors and 3 minor ones. Major ones were going to #6 were I hadn't noticed that there was in fact no gate in the uncrossable fence so I had to go all the way back, and going to #14 where it was a straight line with #16 in the middle and I got confused when I came across #16 and the numbers didn't match up. Probably would've been quicker to take the long way around on the road as there was a fair bit of construction work in the way aswell. Minor errors were going to #7, not really and error just lost time being cautious and planning ahead, #8 where I had forgotten that the map scale was bigger so instead of taking the track I went bushbashing to the bridge which cost me another minute or two. Lastly, to #15 I decided to weave through the buildings the same way as I went to #14 because it would be familiar and I wouldn't get lost but the main road option probably would've been quicker as you didn't have to go around then back down the ramp to get to the control.
Another nice uni campus and nice running weather.
