Orienteering - Forest race (Countryside Score: Middle) 1:25:46 [5] 17.72 km (4:50 / km) +228m 4:33 / km

3rd. Bit disappointed with the area as I assumed we'd be going E from the start into Lyme Park and the hills, and actually we went W into fields and tracks etc. Still found some nice terrain which I had no idea was there though, so that was fun.

As usual started with a try and get them all strategy. It was going pretty well until I started to mistrust the OS map and then thought I'd had a MapRun fail and the map was dodgy, and then 2 more MapRun fails reinforced that.
Later turned out that the first one I was 50m in the wrong place. The others were genuine fails which the much better rules of this league reinstated, but the first one cost me the victory which was annoying. Didn't deserve to win though since I ran about a mile further than the winners.

Enjoyed this more than expected.

Orienteering - Forest race (Dean Clough) 1:02:46 [5] 10.78 km (5:49 / km) +360m 4:59 / km

3rd: within seconds of Phil Rutter, which is the closest I'll ever get! Top 3 all inside a minute.

Relatively uninspiring area, rough pasture with a few wooded sections; not the worse I've been to by a long stretch though. I thought Em would appreciate doing the o today since I'll do a fell race tomorrow.

Didn't make any nav mistakes but some of my route choices maybe weren't great. Mainly due to lack of planning, just starting to implement a snap decision immediately rather than thinking about it adequately on the previous leg. Too used to just running now, and not willing to slow down to look at the map overly. Need to find the balance. Probably got away with it today because the course was straightforward.

Very windy and 5050 rain forecast so compulsory waterproof - I decided to wear it which was a bad decision as I got very sweaty. It's still at least 10 degrees which is pretty odd for November.

Much nicer weather. Made my group do Fartlek up Cliff Lane which they loved I'm sure.
Turns out we have at least 3 of us with the same 2:50 target who're all in London, so should be fun for the first 20 miles. Then we'll see who can hang on!

Orienteering - Urban race (NSL #1 Macclesfield NW) 1:13:56 [5] 15.45 km (4:47 / km) +151m 4:34 / km

2nd, but morally first. Radius on MapRun set to 10m, which is lower than normal. Didn't fancy stopping to run around in circles at each control since it was torrential rain and I'd chosen not to wear a coat. Despite not being inherently cold, the rain leached my heat and about halfway I was going to retire with hypothermia...and then it stopped raining and was fine.

When I upload my result and manually change the radius to 20m, all my controls and included and I win comfortably. But aparantly there are some MDOC people who don't really like MapRun and GPS and all this technology, and want to make it as hard as possible. But meh, MapRun is still better than pencil and paper, even when it doesn't work properly.
