Orienteering - Forest race (CSC Hawse End) 1:14:26 [4] 10.92 km (6:49 / km) +365m 5:50 / km
ahr:127 max:152 shoes: Mudclaw 275 (red)

Edit: 5th/16 on course 1. Happy with this. 4th for most of it, and then my misses on controls 33 and 35 lost me the place! Dammit.

_______

Unsurprisingly MDOC didn't qualify for the final. 16 counters when the team size is 25 is never going to work - but even if you scale up our score by 25/16 we still come last (not sure that calc is 100% legit but still).

However: despite the relentless rain throughout, I actually had a great run. Probably one of my best ever (forest o) performances. Plus it was a great area and I had an awesome time. 35 controls and only lost a few minutes - a crag near the beginning where I was a contour too low, a bit of confusion looking at a crag thinking how the hell am I not in the right place (it was tucked around the back) and then an aiming off issue to the finish wall. But the vis was really good, there was no undergrowth and the map was pretty perfect.

Enjoyed this waaaay more than expected. Also Em completed the Blue before the courses closed; so basically everyone was happy. Hooray!

Running - Trail race (Silverdale Circuit) 2:45:59 [5] 31.38 km (5:17 / km) +642m 4:48 / km
shoes: Mudclaw 275 (red)

Another thing I entered in the first lockdown when only a few things were on, but then got cancelled anyway, and then last year I had a clash so deferred to this year. Had it been amazing weather is probably have gone and done something else instead - but it wasn't, and so this workes out ok.

Grim weather before the start; cold wind and heavy rain. Went for 3/4 wproofs and 3 layers. Actually, the first half was okay, some brief breaks in the rain (but still very muddy). Down to 2 layers after about a quarter. In 4th place all the way to halfway at silverdale. The top 3 had disappeared into the distance right at the start - my money was on the guy sponsored by La Sportiva (and I think he did win, but not seen the results yet).
After silverdale a pair caught me and we ran the technical single track by the coast together. They passed me just before going up Arnside Knott and I stayed with them for another couple of miles, but they were too strong. Saw them on the very short out and back section to Fairy Steps (which I missed and so did the loop the wrong way around - down rather than up. The idea is you do it without touching the sides and the fairy grants you a wish - but going down in the rain, that was never going to happen) but then not again.

Nice of Em to run the last mile or so with me in the rain :)

For a trail race - pretty nice - made the best use of the terrain. But it's not one I'd be rushing back to. The most encouraging thing was probably I didn't have any knee/hip/anything issues, since by 20 miles they're normally making themselves known. So looking good for this year so far.

Think I was 6th.

Pretty rapid again, just the 3 of us.
Keep getting David and Andy mixed up. Must stop doing that. They are multiple people.

Harry potter and the cursed child, in London.
Plus lots and lots of expensive sushi.

Awesome.

Orienteering - Urban race (Congleton NSL) 1:12:45 [4] 15.17 km (4:48 / km) +130m 4:36 / km
ahr:128 max:152 shoes: Nike Pegasus 38

Did ok. Controls awkwardly positioned (ie - it was well planned) so missed 3 of the 70s which is probably a new low. Talking to John E afterwards it sounds like he mightve beaten me this eve although it may be close.
N did 40 mins rather than his usual 60, to my 75, so not sure how the points per hour will work out. He was 6 mins late tho so fingers crossed on that one. If he's beaten me tonight it will be touch and go for him to overtake for the series win, which would be seriously upsetting!

Possibly the fastest we've run?

Yep just checked. 4 of us, one interloper from B group who didn't know what hit him. He thinks his 10k PB was broken tonight.

Felt pretty good after the rest day yday. Loads of segment PBs.
