Very happy with this! Lost about 10s on #3 (missed an alleyway and then couldn't locate control tucked behind a bin) but otherwise, really clean run. Surprisingly warm again, vest/shorts.

Running - Road/Track race (Parkrun - Oldham) 18:30 [5] 5.01 km (3:41 / km) +85m 3:24 / km
ahr:149 max:167 shoes: Nike Pegasus 37

96th unique parkrun - have ordered my Cow Cowl now but I'll be saving it to wear until my 100th.

3 laps, tarmac with a bonus woodland section on lap 3. Nice course actually, a climb every lap but not too steep, and then a long downhill every lap too. The slightly uphill woodland bit at the end was tough with two guys breathing down my neck but I managed to hold them off - 5th, with them 2s and 4s behind.

Felt ok actually, much better than at Bowstones yday when I felt like my chest was going to explode.

Orienteering - Forest race (Lancaster Uni Score) 56:25 [5] 10.64 km (5:18 / km) +180m 4:53 / km
ahr:144 max:161 shoes: Xtalon 212 (navy/orange)

Odds/evens score. Max points, but too slow to win (5th when I left).

Mistake right at the start, terrible control order choice which I realised quite fast but it meant I had to get one on an out and back which was totally avoidable. Lost about 2:30.

Then one more bad choice, left an even until last when I should've got it straight after the odds. It was in the wrong direction but I was already at the top of the hill it was on, and also significantly harder to get to from the bottom. Rest of the controls all fine, but then approaching this one at the end from the bottom, theres a path on the map which very much doesn't exist on the ground (it looks like it might've in the past, but very distant past!) between a hedge and a fence, and so I had to climb the fence twice and squeeze through a different hedge which isn't even on the map. Anyway apart from getting scratched to pieces that ludicrousness also lost me about 2:30 and so my 56 could've been 51. Not sure what the winning time was yet.

Good fun after parkrun and good use of the area. Em really enjoyed it. Plus we have more o tomorrow too which is a proper urban.

Thought this went well so disappointed to be 45s slower than the last time I did it.
Looking at the splits, faster on the first quarter but slower on the second, to be 10s ish behind at the Bowstones. Then 15s down through the woods and 15s on the remainder.
It was significantly muddier this time, which is my excuse. Felt very out of breath on the climbs, legs fine though.

Over the stile since there was no queue. Last time there was a queue of 1, and I went through the dog hole and came out together with the stile guy. So it's pretty similar either way.

Enjoyed it, and good turnout of MaccH.

Note
(rest day)

Meant to get out, but it was raining. And I'm racing tomorrow, and it would be nice to be faster than last time...

Fairly relaxed pace, very muddy. Just the 3 of us. Very mild again.

Orienteering - Urban race (York University) 37:58 [5] 8.21 km (4:37 / km) +62m 4:27 / km
ahr:144 max:162 shoes: Pegasus Trail 3

Good area, not as good use of it made this time I didn't think. 3rd behind Jack and Ben Stevens. Not quite enough ranking points to make it into my top 6 and so I'm still tantalisingly close to (re)breaking into the top 100, at 102nd.

This was my last event as an M21 :(

Fairly poor start missing a gap and then ending up the wrong side of some olive, and then failed to include road crossing requirement in planning the next leg. From there though, pretty good. I think missed the best route on 7, possibly anchored by going the way I'd come into 6. Didn't do much else wrong I don't think - Jack and BS both running a bit faster (Jack a lot faster, plus a 60s mistake). Not a lot of 50/50 route choice going on; I imagine that the best route was taken by most people in most cases, so running speed was pretty important today.

Running - Trail (Jaunt with Jack) 42:27 [3] 6.57 km (6:28 / km) +267m 5:22 / km
ahr:133 max:152 shoes: Peregrine 11 ST

The o wasn't a massive run so since the rain had stopped we got out for a little jog before nightfall.
Foggy on the ridge and pretty muddy everywhere, but surprisingly warm. Busy with walkers. Nice to get out with Jack before he goes back to Norway again.

Running - Trail race (Adlington Winter Warmer) 55:16 [5] 10.48 km (5:16 / km) +44m 5:10 / km
ahr:138 max:191 shoes: Pegasus Trail 3

Edit: 40:26, so 34 seconds off. 32nd place. The winner was bang on, which is pretty impressive. Although if you ask 182 people to predict their times, maybe it's likely that someone will get it right?

-----

Naked race - watch in back pocket. Interesting to note that my arse has a significantly higher HR than my wrist.

My original estimate was 38:30 but after looking at the route (plentiful corners) and the conditions (muddy) and the distance (10.5k) I amended it to 41:00.

Minimal ascent, mainly uninteresting canal and MWW. Winning for the first few hundred metres and then settled into 5th. 5th for all of it until about 300m left where I finally caught up and passed 4th.

I think I probably wasn't far off 41, but not close enough to win a prize! The shoes were as expected - only marginally more grip than road shoes, but acceptable for flat mild mud, and as comfy as road shoes.
