Note
(rest day)

This ranks in the top 2 of my worst ski journeys so far. We're currently on the flight to Lyon via Paris, after being rejected from our 7am flight to Geneva because we didn't have the (newly required since this morning) Covid test. We were also rejected from the 1pm flight to Geneva because in the time it took us to get a Covid test, Geneva had closed the French border and with it the loophole that exempted you from the 10 day quarantine if you're coming from the UK.
So fingers crossed for no French rule changes in the next few hours because I'm not sure we could take it.

Running - Trail (Sponds in the snow) 1:08:47 [3] 10.61 km (6:29 / km) +428m 5:24 / km
ahr:136 max:157 shoes: Mudclaw 275 (blk)

At Buxton overnight, and woke up to a foot of snow. Angry that I'd forgotten to put the snow chains in the car last night despite having thought about it in the shower; id have been so smug if id remembered. In fact, very stressful morning sliding down roads very nearly hitting other cars, trying to turn around in a Waitrose car park and getting stuck again there and having to reverse out, and having to snap bits off a fallen tree and mount the pavement in order to get around. Luckily Emma was there to prevent me having a (mental) breakdown.

So couldn't get to the Baslow Bolt but was all ready to run so did a quick loop from home. Extremely windy and deep snow in the drifts but otherwise good fun. Hands painfully cold in the wind at the top.

The old mudclaws are still doing pretty well in the snow. The uppers are a mess but it appears to be mostly cosmetic. The graphene ones' uppers have lasted much better, but I don't think they're even claiming to have graphene in those bits.

After lunch so feeling full.

Orienteering - Urban race (Altrincham) 1:12:20 [4] 14.96 km (4:50 / km) +95m 4:41 / km
ahr:137 max:154 shoes: Nike Pegasus 37

First 3/4s and gloves evening although 3/4s was overkill. Probably got too many small values near the start but became a bit more ruthless later on with ignoring them. Made some questionable choices eg a 60 and a 20 rather than a 70 for the same distance, but actually stopping twice is a big penalty. Timed it poorly and was back 3:40 early or something, so I imagine I've not done too well this week.

Enjoyed it though, and nandos afterwards with the 7 people I dragged along to the event.

(injured) (rest day)

Getting ready for skiing, printing travel documents, packing, that kind of stuff. Didn't finish work until late again :( but I did get the required document updates done.

Running - Trail (Steeple loop) 5:53:53 [3] 27.09 km (13:04 / km) +2247m 9:14 / km
ahr:122 max:161 (injured) (sick) shoes: Mudclaw 275 (blk)

With Nathanael and Jake. Drizzle, fog throughout, and really slippery rock made this a sedate outing mostly.
Went the N way around Scarth gap upwards and didn't find any trod I missed on the way down, so that's good to know for Ennerdale. Going up I don't think it's any faster than the regular way though.

Rocky and slow along the ridge to red pike and then a lovely run down into Ennerdale emerging out of the cloud. Across then up the long spur to Steeple, just to see what its like from behind. Conclusion: less interesting, until right near the top. Slight shortcut over some grass to the North of Little Scoat which is worth exploring further, might save a minute or so on someone's BG.

Dropped off Pillar to the N to look at Pillar Rock, which was a horrible greasy rocky path next to a lovely grassy ridge. But Pillar Cove and the Shamrock Traverse were very sketchy slanting slabs in the rain. Grassy line down Sail Back then back up the rocky steps to Honister.

My cold is pretty much gone now :)
