Running - Trail long (Edale skyline) 3:45:28 [3] 32.43 km (6:57 / km) +1200m 5:52 / km

In the snow :)

Typical British winter weather actually; ie, a bit of everything. Started in a mild blizzard but by Lose Hill got some vis and good views, then some rain between Lose and Win for as long as it took for me to put a coat on, then 10 mins of bright, warm sunshine, then Win Hill was in thick cloud. Then nice coming down again, but once on the Kinder plateau then much colder and windier, finally culminating in face-stinging hail for the last 10 mins on the Mam Tor ridge.

No idea where I was for the whole of the plateau, white everywhere meant it was just a case of picking the right line of footprints...

Amazingly, 10 mins faster than when N and I did it in the not-snow - although admittedly that was during storm Dennis and was a lot more miserable.

Felt pretty good running-wise. A 16-ish year old boy told me I was crazy, which made my day. I saw the respect in his eyes. Probably.

GPS issues, which Google tells me are affecting lots of people with sony chipset devices, still prevalent. It's like the Millennium bug thing, but actually happening this time. How it found itself after an hour and then was fine after that, I have no idea.

ahr:140 max:168 shoes: TrailTalon 235

Bollington Harriers new year scavenger hunt - running around counting steps and writing down house numbers, etc. 17 questions so lots of scope for error! I imagine take up will be small, though.

Just got out before the snow, which is now falling plentifully. Massive flakes too.

Easy NYD walk with Em in the snow.

Running - Trail (Five Trigs) 5:44:48 [3] 32.47 km (10:37 / km) +1365m 8:46 / km

With Em, in very snowy conditions. Thick fog throughout. The off-path sections through snowy heather uphill were tough, but we coped.

Saw a couple of other runners and even two separate sets of people on skis!

2 hours slower than with N, despite not getting lost in the river and taking the slightly longer but easier road route. The conditions today did make for slow progress, though. Good one to round off the year.

A woman shouted at us 'oh my god you are too fit' which was the highlight.

Note

2020 summary, actually not too bad despite everything.

4703.43km, 2936.64 miles, 56.38 miles per week; so exceeded the 50mpw target this year :) 60 next year maybe?

165,958m elevation. 455m per day! I'm proud of this.

In a year with pretty much all races cancelled, managed some notable (imo) achievements;

- another fell race podium; 3rd in Mr Sparkle's Dark 'Un
- 2nd in Green Man Winter Ultra
- sub-20 Bob Graham Round
- 3rd in Lakes Mountain 40
- 4th in Hardmoors 60
- 4th in Yorkshire Trod 50k

Along with 2 weeks skiing and 2 weeks in China.

Pretty happy considering. Lots of stuff to look forward to next year (hopefully) vaccine permitting. I don't think I could take another year quite like this one - but I optimistically don't think that's quite on the cards. Another few months is probably inevitable though. Bring on 2021.

Running - Trail (Lyme Park loop) 2:15:27 [3] 19.77 km (6:51 / km) +727m 5:47 / km
ahr:133 max:160 shoes: Xtalon 212 (blk/red)

In the snow. Lovely. Was going to do Julie's choc-o orienteering but comments from other people ('spent ages hanging around the farm looking; farmer got annoyed') put me off.

Some new paths through the woods at Lyme which were nice. Knee felt ok most of the time.

Very difficult to get motivated to get outside at the moment - but, as usual, very glad I did.

(rest day)

Snowy. Knee a bit sore, and also just lazy and unmotivated. Went for a walk in the snow but that's about it.

Running - Trail race (Not the Fell Handicap) 2:11:07 [4] 22.26 km (5:53 / km) +975m 4:50 / km
ahr:131 max:168 shoes: Mudclaw 275 (blk)

Normally the club does a handicap race with staggered starts; this year that was cancelled (everyone finishing at the the same time and going to a pub isn't very covid-compliant) and the route was changed anyway to avoid some tree disease hotspots.

It was snowy everywhere, mainly with fog. But no wind so quite pleasant. Lots of people getting in the way tho since it's a BH.

Fell over in the forest trying to avoid walkers and bashed my knee; just kept running (obvs) but doesn't feel right really. After finishing it turns out the surface wound is quite deep (and now permanently full of dried mud) and it's swollen a bit, hopefully nothing too serious. My own fault for trying to contour around people rather than asking them to move...

3-cheese bacon sandwich is not ideal pre-running food. Felt alright other than that, though.
