Running - Trail race (Doctor's Gate) 2:08:26 [5] 19.36 km (6:38 / km) +943m 5:20 / km
ahr:148 max:182 (injured)

EDIT: 5 minutes lost - but I did get back most of the places I lost; at least:

Navigational fiasco. The race in general; not me! For a change. For many reasons:
(1) the map being handed out at registration was wrong. We we told that one checkpoint was no longer there, and another had been added. Fair enough...
(2) we were told that the whole thing was flagged so we wouldn't need the map anyway
(3) the [amended] route had been drawn on a master map the wall

This was all quite disappointing anyway since I'd been hoping/expecting some nav. But anyway.

All going fine to CP2, then followed flags to CP3, which didn't appear to be there, then flags disappeared in the mist and so used the map to navigate to CP4...which wasn't there, but guy in my club was spectating and he confirmed we were in the right place...so we headed towards CP5 and then saw the rest of the field coming down a totally different spur, which was the flagged route, but nothing like the mapped route...so we'd lost a load of time by going to the right place!

Then afterwards started to work my way back through the field, which was quite fun at least, bit of hail and some sunshine, some nice boggy bits over the moor, caught up a lot of time, then a glorious descent. Went past another couple of checkpoints with nothing there, but that was standard by now.

21st, not sure how much time I lost by going the right way yet. But it was a farce; some people went down the flagged route and then turned back towards where CP4 should've been but wasn't, since they were sensibly using the map; some didn't turn round and just ignored it...results are basically meaningless. Most people were finishing and having no idea whether they were disqualified or not. Exactly how a navigational race shouldn't be.

Good route though, and soup/crusty bread/sandwiches/pork pie/homemade flapjack and caramel shortbread at the end. Shame about the (unapologetic) organisation.

Talked to Darren Fishwick about number of fell races; he said that other than last year where he 'only' did 95 fell races, the few years before that he was generally getting over 100.

So that's a target. Up to 7 thus far; need to get a move on.

Trigger, Hoofstones, Tigger Tor, Wadsworth Trog, Mickleden Straddle, Windy Hill, Doctor's Gate

3 mins behind Nathanael; a minute faster than last year.
Conditions were probably better overall this year though, it was windier (weather warning level of wind) but not raining, warmer so no ice, and not as muddy. Uphill easier since just blown up, but across the moor tough since crosswind meant going in a straight line was non-trivial.

Found that in order to make any progress into the wind I really had to pump my arms; unfortunately the gym-on-Fridays strategy meant that they were quite sore. I think it should help in the longer term, though.

Despite the slabs having a layer of water on them, they were nowhere near as slippery as Trigger. I think someone must've been out and greased those.

My foot didn't hurt today, which was a pleasant surprise.

Finally saw a physio at the hospital today about my insensitive foot. She was really good, I was in there for over an hour getting all kinds of things measured.

My physio is hot. I'll be seeing her again.

I have some exercises to do and I need to keep a diary of how much and when things hurt.

Running - Road/Track tempo (Quick tempo) 30:02 [4] 6.45 km (4:39 / km) +71m 4:25 / km
ahr:138 max:156 (injured) shoes: Brooks Ravenna 9

Got to prep some maps tonight for the weekend so didn't do the club run, however had to run for 30 mins at 70pc max HR to get the max Vitality Health insurance points for the day :)
Felt slow.

Running - Trail (MaccH Fell Group) 1:41:52 [3] 13.42 km (7:35 / km) +611m 6:11 / km
ahr:125 max:152 (injured) shoes: X-Talon 225 (July 2017)

A long one for the fell group. Didn't push very hard and was at the back the whole time; feeling ok though, just didn't fancy putting any effort in.
Fingers very cold despite quite a warm evening, windy though so it was probably that.

Orienteering - Urban race (Romiley Night Street) 59:06 [5] 9.92 km (5:57 / km) +194m 5:26 / km
ahr:120 max:142 (injured) shoes: Brooks Ravenna 9

Thought I'd get one of the backlog events in as I had a free day. Would've been better off with a drier day...lots of paths muddy and slippery in road shoes. Forecast rain held off until ten mins from the end; glad I elected to go with 60 rather than 75.

Running - Road/Track (MaccH B Group) 1:15:43 [3] 15.04 km (5:02 / km) +155m 4:47 / km
ahr:141 max:165 (injured) shoes: Brooks Ravenna 9

Put some Superfeet RunComfort insoles into my shoes to see what happened. It's a bit early to say - but I think probably nothing.

Actually the achilles thing did feel a bit better; that wasn't the problem they were supposed to solve, though... Will review after a few more weeks!

Warm evening; nice change. Fairly pacey.
