Went down a course to the blue and intended to run cautiously, retiring if required. Definite improvement - hurt at the start but then eased off, discomfort every step but not pain.Good definitely didn't feel like I was making it any worse which is what I was worried about.
Trying very hard not to fall over - which is why I came to a tussocky moorland event - and succeeded except from once, but managed to land on my opposite knee/hand with ballerina-like grace. I imagine.

Other than that-pretty scrappy run, probably because I was concentrating on my knee so much.overriding error was to rely too much on the paths, where the mapping was sporadic at best - should've stuck to the contours.similarly, need to take more account of the direction of the slope of the hills.just lots of little missed caused by either being on a different path to where I thought I was, or an unmapped one.

So not a great run but definitely good to be outside and more sensible than going to the fell race. Nicely spring as well-too hot for a baselayer; 8° or so.looking good to be able to attempt the races next weekend.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Trying to get lots of dull things out of the way.

Running - Road/Track (Knee) 6:28 [1] 1.0 km (6:28 / km) +24m 5:46 / km
ahr:136 max:142 (injured) (rest day) shoes: Nike Pegasus 32

Sort of feels like my knee cap isn't attached to the rest of my body and so it kind of jiggles around. I am mostly confident that this is just psychological.

Not pain exactly, but significant discomfort. Did ease a bit after a while.

I'm thinking orienteering but a short course would be a good compromise. I can't spend another day indoors.

Running - Trail (MH Fell Training) 1:11:47 [3] 8.74 km (8:13 / km) +382m 6:44 / km
ahr:140 max:161 (injured) shoes: Salomon Fellraiser

Running well, in the middle of the fast group again and thanks to being pretty sure the ankle thing actually being a calf thing and lots of stretching and massage, feeling good.

However - turns out it's still really muddy. Slipped on a grassy path and with incredible bad luck my knee found the only rock for several metres. Superficial (probably! Not washed it yet) flesh wound and managed to jog an easy route back, in considerable pain. But as soon as stopped running and the adrenaline wore off and I tried to drive home - incredible, nausea inducing pain nearly causing literal tears. Just about made it back, luckily the drive wasn't too far. Several ibuprofen later I can just about walk, it's swelled up considerably though.

Note

Most wounds look better after you clean them up.
This one doesn't.

Orienteering - Forest race (JK Relay Beaudesert) 39:38 [5] 5.5 km (7:12 / km) +189m 6:09 / km
ahr:150 max:172 shoes: X-Talon 225 (July 2017)

Pretty good run tbh, other than falling in the swamp (see later).

Grim day; cold, raining, some snow but mainly mud on the ground. Cagoules enforced. Wore a hat, although mainly because forgot to take it off.actually really bad for o since it restricts peripheral vision too much.

Plan was to ignore everyone, based on experience of the British relays where I followed everyone, messed up #1 and didn't see anyone again for the entire run. Learned that lesson well, was pretty smooth and taking my own lines to everything, would lose a pack for a bit and then we'd come back together for a common control. A bit lucky on some of the straight-line legs where helped by the volume of people.

Missed 101 (dodgy bearing? Or just following the reentrant up rather than using the compass) and so fell back and was alone, then tried to speed up on 90 and was slightly too far right on a parallel wet ditch/marsh rather than the correct one.this was OOB possibly because it was waist deep.luckily only one leg went in and I was able to instinctively grab onto a tree and haul myself about before the other one met the same fate.didn't really know where I was as survival mode had kicked in, luckily there were plenty of people going to the accrual control which was only 20m or so away.

Then pretty clean from that point and pleased with how well I ignored everyone again. So despite losing a few mins, fairly happy with the performance.

I think my most consistent JK overall; hopefully another year of fell running will improve my fitness even more and make me more competitive at elite level (I have no illusions I'm ever going to win anything, but it would be nice to go into M35 with a bit more of a chance!).
