EDIT: 7th/36
http://www.quantockorienteers.co.uk/items/Galoppen...Lost the time mainly where I thought; without mistakes would've been up with Nigel and Pete so running speed isn't too bad. Excellent run from Eddie to be 4mins up on Clive.
_________
All muscles from waist down have been Blorenged and were not happy today.
Reasonable run and nice area though.
Two annoying mistakes:
8-9 wanted to contour but didn't head steeply enough up the hill and didn't look where I expected the rough open patches to be with the result that I didn't know which one I hit, or really exactly where I was for the rest of the leg.so a couple of minutes lost here. Classic example of oversimplifying - 'SW to path' was too much.
Main issue though was choice of route anyway; straight would've been much better here and would probably have saved another minute.
12-13 terrible choice to take the longer, not-path route rather than the obvious path; no idea what I was thinking.also ignored the option to cut a corner. But worse than that, approach into the control was dire, AP was good but decided to follow a veg boundary 90° in wrong direction rather than the earthbank. I can only put the errors on this leg down to tiredness because they are genuinely
bizarre.at least another 2 mins on finding the control and probably another 2 for route choice.
