Orienteering race (OK Nuts Trophy Full Blood) 1:50:44 [4] 19.3 km (5:44 / km) +140m 5:32 / km
(injured)

Result not great in position terms, but <10mins behind Geoff over nearly 20k is quite good going; also 35 secs faster would have been 4 places higher...

Conditions challenging in places - bracken and water. Damp to say the least.

Good fun in the mass start; c.200 people all on different courses and mixed in together. Followed Geoff to #1 which was a terrible decisison; around the start it was much better to stick to the paths, whereas elsewhere on the area it was better to go straight.

Made some mistakes which winsplits has captured pretty well; it was a shame some fast-growing trees hadn't been mapped (final details mentioned "some areas of up to 3m high birch trees which aren't mapped"- I don't know if putting it in the FDs excuses this!) so there were several occasions where after wasting time bashing through them, there was a runnable route several yards away.

Apart from that, map was good and planning was excellent; only saw Paul twice at #6 and #32 and yet we finished 20s apart. Due to the gaffling I had no idea if I was ahead or behind him.

To say I don't often run this far, I didn't have any problem with the distance so that was good.

Orienteering race (Farnborough Urban) 39:38 [5] 9.04 km (4:23 / km) +41m 4:17 / km
(injured) shoes: Saucony Virrata 2

Good result: http://www.southernnavigators.com/web_documents/re...
http://www.sn.routegadget.co.uk/rg2/#62

Some small mistakes but mainly route choice; otherwise fine.

Slightly questionable route to #5, think N was better, but S was easier and less wiggly.
Should've taken less wiggly route to 10.
Very slow out of 15 due to planning 17...which didn't pay off at all since still thought could get through somewhere couldn't get through.
Route to 17 not good in general; think Richard's better.
Also to 19.
W route to 20 probably shorter but also more complex

Could feel achilles all the way round which was really annoying; I thought it was supposed to be getting better....

Running tempo (Missed intervals :() 32:41 [4] 7.88 km (4:09 / km) +50m 4:01 / km

due to being at the actuarial conference and there being an accident on the motorway on the way back :(

So tried to go for a 10k run, but not very good at distance judgement so didn't go far enough; ended up being 8k. Not too bad since missed out on 8*1k intervals!

Aimed to stay at 4m/ks and hit that pretty well, but it felt like hard work. Still; 5th day in a row and all that. Rest days tomorrow and Friday.

At least my cold is pretty much gone

Running race (Aztec West 5k) 18:30 [5] 5.0 km (3:42 / km) +25m 3:37 / km
(injured) (sick) shoes: Saucony Virrata 2

Wet and cold...
...but hat, glove and baselayer were definite overkill. Bit hot.

Standard unbelievable; even higher than Pomphrey. Beaten by two girls who were about 12. Started way too fast since couldn't believe the pace of the 60 people ahead of me!

*since it's a 1 mile oval, the k splits aren't even hill-wise. The other ks include a similar amount of up and down, but that is all up.

Managed to outsprint a couple of people in the last 50m which was good.

Little Stoke definitely short distance-wise last week based on this - this course is great for me since it has no corners. It is hillier, but only marginally. Should definitely be the faster course.

Might not make training tomorrow since at a conference in Reading :(

Just did 6 of the 12 400s since racing tomorrow. Would have done more probs but track was super slippery with the ice. One of the floodlights not working; don't know if this made a slight difference to the temperature on one corner but it was pretty tough. Like running on really short wet grass.

So not great. It was 1.5 degrees according to the car. Brrr!
The watch helpfully tells me that temperature of my wrist was 7 degrees.
