Orienteering race (BOK Moseley Green) 1:14:42 [5] 8.9 km (8:24 / km) +350m 7:01 / km
(injured) (sick)

7th / 35

Immediately afterwards I thought this was a pretty good run; it was only once I started comparing splits that I remembered all the mistakes...

1 - depression amidst lots (1 min)
2 - bit tentative but ok
3 - came in a bit early but the veg boundaries were right so relolcated ok (30s)
4 - fine
5 - bad route staying on big track; way too low (1 min)
6 - very safe route but ok
7 - safe route S but stuck in lots of brambles...
8 - fine
9 - up to path and down again; not best choice
10 - round bottom
11 - fine
12 - fine
13 - too low and not far enough round; exactly like last time I messed this up! (1 min)
14 - fine
15 - fine; went to wet pit first
16 - went to depression NE of control first and stood for a bit (30s)
17 - went via control on hill in open forest. still a pretty good leg since since ran down the hill crazily fast (30s)
18 - fine
19 - fine
20 - fine
21 - fine; probably not necessary to come out to path
22 - not good route choice; came out to path and all way around rather than straight. should have cut.
23 - not good route choice; came to fence and round rather than back to path same way came in. Then thought control feature was small hill slightly higher up, so went to identical feature too low down. (1.5 mins)
24 - fine
25 - fine
26 - veg boundaries not as clear as mapped which messed up my plan to use them. relocated from white forest on right (60s)
27 - way too far E! hit fence and had no idea what was going on. had concentrated on going down and up renentrant without paying enough attention to compass. bit embarrassed coming out pretty close to finish. (90s)
F - fine

So no mistakes more than 90s (which is good) but altogether...8.5 mins mistakes (navigational; a bit more time lost if I was to include route choice errors but I don't like doing this...maybe once my navigation is perfect I'll focus on the choices!

74:42 - 8 mins 30 = 66:12; shows how well Matt Whipple is running recently that's he's still ahead. 6 mins behind Clive is probably about right.

Not really sure what to do about these - be more careful I guess; although I was being careful!

Running race (Parkrun - Newent) 19:54 [5] 5.0 km (3:59 / km) +46m 3:48 / km
(injured) (sick) shoes: Saucony Virrata 2

Conventional wisdom says that you shouldn't run with a cold...
totally disagreeing with this. Felt absolutely dreadful this morning, until after parkrun when I felt great. I could breathe through the proper number of holes for the first time in three days.

Very happy at winning first parkrun; time wasn't great but conditions weren't great either (rain; mud) - had road shoes on since was expecting about 50% grass, 50% path; actual ratios more like 70% grass, and the track was pretty muddy. Definitelyx-talons in winter in future for that.

Running race (NGOC Woodchester) 56:15 [5] 8.14 km (6:55 / km) +324m 5:46 / km
(injured) (sick)

Lots of track running which I normally don't mind, but felt pretty slow due to parkrun in the morning. Overall good run; marred by #11 being in the wrong place.

Took high route to #1, will be interesting to see the times of those who went low. I think on balance high is enough shorter such that the extra climb is worth it. Bit confused by there being more woodland apparatus than there are black Xs on the map; so just ignored all of them.

Happy with 2-6. Went down and up to 5 which I think is best. #7 tried to aim off a bit to the E and ended up aiming off way too much and hit the track; then I thought the ditch was a stream for a bit. But didn't lose very much time.

Left 7 and the same time as someone and went W; they went E. Got there slightly before, but I think I was running quite a bit faster, so suspect E is the best route (less wiggly, less steep descent).

9 fine. Tentative to 10 due to extra vegetation; maybe a min lost here just stationary. Would have been safer to take the path, but I don't think that's a good option based on the map.

#11 - in the wrong place. This may be the first time in 15 years of O that I can be certain! Failed to find fence so followed reentrant up - got to veg boundary - nothing. Thought maybe veg bounary wasnt veg boundary and it was just fallen trees or something, so continued up hill...nope; definitely veg boundary. So dense it was pitch black inside. Went back down to where control should have been and went up the other side again. Nothing. Certain of where I was, so decided to continue course. Found control on platform on the edge of control circle. Bit annoyed. But as long as they void the leg, not too bothered.

12 13 14 ok; bit dull; track running.

15 just following a fence for 250m; however this wasn't easy. Would have been faster to bail out to the path and run all the way round; however doubt anyone will do this since by the time you'd realise it was the best choice, it would be too late.

1:31 for the 90m run-in is probably a new record? 17 mins/km...

Running intervals (B+W Training) 1:19:47 [5] 11.84 km (6:44 / km) +12m 6:42 / km
ahr:136 max:169 (injured) (sick) shoes: Saucony Virrata 2

Bit of a cold :( don't think it affected me much though. Mainly wanted to see what happened if I ticked both boxes.

4 * (5*300m (60s), 500m jog)

55,55,53,55,54
55,54,54,55,54
56,55,54,56,55
55,56,55,55,54

All mainly between 3:00 and 3:10 pace; consistent. Felt pretty hard on the last set but not too dreadful; definitely feel like some fitness is coming back.

Just the achilles niggles to sort out and I'll be in good shape!

Running intervals (B+W Training) 1:23:31 [5] 11.0 km (7:36 / km) +3m 7:35 / km
ahr:128 max:168 (injured) shoes: Saucony Virrata 2

Grass session.

Note to self - bring spikes next time! Slippery and dark.

3 * 6 mins (2mins)
2 * 4 mins (90s)
2 * 2 mins (60s)

3:50, 3:44, 3:51
3:45, 3:45
3:31, 3:32

Consistent other than 1 anomaly; quite happy with these since it's harder on the grass than the track, and it was difficult staying upright on the corners and random muddy parts.
