Running - Trail (Kerridge) 34:15 [3] 5.79 km (5:55 / km) +218m 4:59 / km
ahr:133 max:156 (injured) shoes: Roclite 300 (blue/fluro)

Too nice a day not to go out at lunch.
7 PM

Running - Trail (MaccH Fell Group) 1:36:56 [3] 14.99 km (6:28 / km) +535m 5:29 / km
ahr:134 max:160 (injured) shoes: Roclite 300 (blue/fluro)

Starting to get some training volume back! Still a bit painful though.

Lovely warm evening and missed running in groups of 6.

Found the hills tough.

ahr:141 max:162 (injured) shoes: Roclite 300 (blue/fluro)

Ultrasound this morning - they didn't find anything, and recommended an MRI :-)

Running - Trail (MaccH Tegg's) 1:39:56 [3] 14.81 km (6:45 / km) +640m 5:33 / km
ahr:132 max:163 (injured) shoes: Roclite 300 (blue/fluro)

Return to group running on a glorious evening. Good run.

Average age of the group was probably only just over 30, which is I think the lowest it's ever been!

Running - Trail race (Alex's Time Trial) 1:27:34 [4] 17.54 km (5:00 / km) +379m 4:30 / km
ahr:157 max:185 (injured) shoes: Roclite G290

Alex Wright planned a nice 10m loop and set it up as a segment a few days ago, issuing an open challenge, so I thought I'd be the first person to have a go and therefore stand a chance of winning for a bit.

Only got lost once (on the Gritstone, the same place as on the race...) - it's the path to the right of the track, not the track, and not the path to the right of the path that it is. Simples.

Feeling ok fitness wise but the abdominal pain persists. Now have ultrasound booked for next week and MRI booked for the week after, so maybe we'll get somewhere!

Running - Trail 47:14 [3] 8.66 km (5:27 / km) +231m 4:49 / km
ahr:140 max:163 (injured) shoes: Roclite 300 (blue/fluro)

Another little jaunt because why not?

ahr:136 max:182 (injured) shoes: Roclite 300 (blue/fluro)

Reward for good company year end results or some such. So Lyme Park with Em and found some steep bits to practice running downhill.

Would have been longer but her power steering fluid hose has corroded on her car and so we had to get back to sort that out (ie pay some competent people with proper jobs to mend it, rather than people who just play with numbers all day)

Felt injured today which was annoying after several days of nothing, but that's the nature of the beast.

These shoes are definitely getting towards the end of their life.

ahr:145 max:177 (injured) shoes: Roclite 300 (blue/fluro)

Feeling so much better in the Roclites compared to those Merrell things.

Managed to grab a CR and 2nd and third on a couple of others - feeling good.

ahr:144 max:160 (injured) shoes: Merrell Agility Peak 4

Recovery jog in the sun, culminating at the barge selling gin. Hic.

Not liking these shoes -> eBay.

Running - Trail race (Five Trigs) 3:03:48 [5] 29.93 km (6:08 / km) +1264m 5:04 / km
ahr:154 max:196 (injured) shoes: Roclite G290

First time doing this on my own and so actually having a proper go.

Three of us had a go today, all starting in different places at different times and in different directions... I couldn't quite match Col Allott's FKT of just under three hours and ran 3:03:48. But N managed to reduce the record with 2:44:47 and Tom destroyed it with 2:30:33!

Splits vs previous best;

Shuts -> Roaches 47:52 (54:57) -7:05
Roaches -> Axe 52:51 (59:04) -6:13
Axe -> Burbage 19:40 (20:39) -0:59
Burbage -> Shining 31:12 (36:13) -5:01
Shining -> Shuts 32:13 (44:35) -12:22

So 31:40 faster. Based on the other times, it looks like the route via the Forest rather than via Cumberland is about 7 mins faster, and the others differences are just running on my own vs chatting pace.

Across the moor from Burbage to the path down the heather was a brave choice since it was un-recced - I think it's faster at the moment but it was pretty rough. Don't think it would be faster in Summer. From Shining Tor, followed the "trod" which is pretty ropey at best and I think I'd have been better going straight.

Started at Standing Stone CP because it was somewhere new to start rather than for a good reason. I think Tom's idea of starting in the Goyt (for a/c) or at the bottom of Shuts (for clockwise) are good, each getting the big climbs done first.

One Clif bar on the ascent to Axe and a couple of Bloks up Shining.

Pain free until about halfway! Pretty sure this is an improvement. Scans should be next week.

--
Comparing splits with Tom - I think the road route via Flash is about 2.5 mins faster

ahr:146 max:172 (injured) shoes: Pegasus 36 (Blue)

44 miles in the last seven days somehow so getting back to some semblance of normality...

No pain today. MRI and ultrasound next week hopefully. Pretty much guarantee they won't find anything.

Running - Trail (Shoe testing) 36:21 [3] 6.36 km (5:43 / km) +234m 4:50 / km
ahr:143 max:165 (injured) shoes: Merrell Agility Peak 4

Shoe testing my 8th pair now in this extremely lucrative role for Runners World.

We don't often get trail shoes. These are weird; very low back so you have to do them super tight otherwise your for is rolling around everywhere. Grip on the forefoot uphill wasnt amazing in the mud. Feel a bit unstable. Basically they're an ultra shoe and they're probably ok at that, although the tightness in the rest of the foot might make that an untenable use case. We shall see. Still - free shoes.

Ascent is going well this week. 1,124m in 4 weekday lunchtimes. Would be good to keep that up.

ahr:125 max:179 (injured) shoes: Roclite 300 (blue/fluro)

Same orienteering as before but with Em and going for shortest distance.
8.76 miles and I think the previous best was just over 9.

700m ish shorter than last time. Not sure what I'll do if someone beats this! As it looks optimum to me.

Good hill training for a lunchtime run.

ahr:158 max:192 (injured) shoes: Pegasus 36 (Blue)

Trying to get as much ascent at possible in as smaller a distance as possible. 250 is about optimum I reckon without going over previous ground again.

Best the injury has felt since like November so fingers crossed, not getting too hopeful yet though since this has happened before.

Saw a consultant today and referred for an ultrasound and an MRI.

Kind of exciting.

Running - Trail (Shining Tor to Shutlingsl) 1:19:22 [3] 12.99 km (6:07 / km) +554m 5:02 / km
ahr:149 max:175 (injured) shoes: Roclite G290

Trying to find the shortest route between ST and Shuts for the 5 trigs. Think this is it.

Pretty rough at the top and probably wouldn't be fastest in summer, but stats speak for themselves:

Via Forest 5.74, 207m
Via C&F 7.25, 304m

Was 33:50 via Forest
On the actual attempt it was 44:35 and 46:53 in each direction, so seems clearly faster.

Really windy and foggy at top of ST, some rain en route, mostly ok if cold (and windy).

Minor pain present.

Orienteering - Urban race (Bollington Street-Trail-O) 1:16:47 [4] 14.82 km (5:11 / km) +405m 4:33 / km
ahr:163 max:193 (injured) shoes: Roclite 300 (blue/fluro)

Map and clues last night and recces encouraged, so half the clues last night in the rain and the other half this morning.
Then planned what looked like the optimum route at home and drew it on the map.

Promptly failed to follow it near the start and ran an extra couple of hundred metres which was annoying, but otherwise implemented successfully.

Good fun. I'll be a bit annoyed if anyone beats me (separate distance and time competitions). It would be possible to do 400m shorter on a weekday since a gate would be unlocked, bit of you didn't know that was going to be the case you wouldn't plan for it and so wouldn't save much.

Less pain than last week, but was runningv for less than half the time so who knows. Seeing a consultant on Monday...

Running - Trail (Five Trigs) 3:35:27 [3] 32.08 km (6:43 / km) +1338m 5:33 / km
ahr:147 max:193 (injured) shoes: Roclite G290

Surprisingly similar splits Vs last time given opposite direction;
Shuts ST 44:35 Vs 46:53
ST Burbage 36:13 Vs 31:47
Burbage Axe 20:39 Vs 23:19
Axe Roaches 59:04 Vs 68:56
Roaches Shuts 54:57 Vs 55:34

Started at the bottom of Shuts rather than at the C&F. We debated whether it might be best to start with Shuts but still go clockwise, then all the big climbs would be out of the way at the start. I like this idea. Maybe starting from Goyt in the opposite direction would work. N also had the idea to go S from ST and then around the road to Shut, which saves some ascent and so may have merit.

Felt ok for the first bit but defo painful later on.

Best I've felt running in ages. Minimal pain. Still can't feel my thigh but you can't have everything.

Officially diagnosed now by a GP as meralgia paraesthetica. They said if it doesn't get worse, see if it goes away, and if it's still there in 2 weeks they'll do an xray. They aren't that bothered basically.

ahr:138 max:160 (injured) shoes: Inov-8 Roclite 290 (blue)

I think maybe these shoes have had it after 1006kms.
I was just contouring down a muddy downhill and thinking 'gosh,I better be careful here' when I slid sideways and landed unluckily on a rock on my knee... Bit of tedious blood; hopefully haven't done anything more serious too. Limped back home.

Also landed on my left hand so now can't squeeze anything.

Still got no feeling in my right thigh either. So basically falling apart.

Almost comical just getting around the house now...

Turned out nice again.

Didn't start hurting really until 18 mins, which feels like definite progress.

Note
(injured)

In an exciting new injury development I appear to have lost sensations in my right thigh.

Google tells me that this is meralgia paresthetica and that I shouldn't worry about it and it will go away.

ahr:148 max:177 (injured) shoes: Roclite 300 (blue/fluro)

Couldn't resist the ridge as it looks like it might be the last sunny day for a while!

First pain nearer to the hip flexor but definitely more upper leg than pelvis, then that disappeared about halfway to be replaced by pain in the normal place but still way right of centre.
I'm going to tell myself that it wasn't as bad as it's been in the past, though...
