The (Alternative) Ennerdale Horseshoe (British Fell Running Champs Race)

Given the forecast for thunder on the tops, was wondering if the race would be going ahead. In the end they modified the route so it avoided the tops all together, running over to Buttermere, back over Scarth Gap to Black Sail YH, a loop on the hills below Great Gable & Kirk Fell (checkpoints on cols) and a very long run back down the valley from Black Sail YH. Run went fine, paced it well and was still fairly strong on the track run back, apart from the horrendous last 3 miles or so along the south side of Ennerdale Water (tortuous rubble track). Weather was ok too, a few showers and overcast, though it closed in rapidly just as I finished. So if we'd run the long course we'd have got a real pasting over the last few hills.

Usual Nether climb, descent to road, up and down Dunsapie Crag, climb back to Nether from loch corner, traverse round to Pipers Walk and climb up to the Crags. Wet so rocky descents a bit lethal. Didn't push the climbs that hard.
