Note
(rest day)

No time, with a flight on the red-eye back to Sydney, went to work and then a flight in the arvo to Brisbane to work on the tunnel again.
Wouldnt have run anyway.

Sharp pain on the outside of my left foot that wasnt there during the races.

Orienteering race (Australian Relays) 57:00 [4] **** 7.7 km (7:24 / km) +330m 6:06 / km
slept:7.0 shoes: New Balance 781

Oz Relays at somewhere. Only in 2 person team with Prong. He came back a couple of minutes down on the leaders, so there was no pressure to do much which I am glad for. Legs didnt feel too bad for the circumstances, but really didnt care and just went for a training run. After 5 I ran most of the course with Rhys Challen.

run warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Orienteering race (Australian Champs) 2:11:00 [4] **** 16.8 km (7:48 / km) +640m 6:33 / km
spiked:18/23c slept:7.0 shoes: New Balance 781

Oz Champs at Hill Park Dale. First starter, and was quickly caught up by Craig (3mins), Lachlan (6mins) and Bruce (9mins) at 5, after making close to 10 mins of mistakes combined on 3, 4 and 5. The train was formed but the front engine (Bruce) pulled away too easily after the first field crossing (11?). The rest of the race involved minor circle mistakes, bad route choices, seeing Lachlan (mainly) and Craig sporadically and a world of hurt. Saw Blair fleetingly at 18 but he was on a good run, so it was only for a second. I have finally learned how not to die completely on long courses, now I just need to do it a bit quicker (and maybe learn to look at the map once in a while in complex granite).

Went back to the hotel for a good lie down. Got a 'eadache and couldnt eat much.

run warm up/down 10:00 [2]
shoes: New Balance 781

Up to the start and around a bit, with some stretching. No warm down.

Orienteering 27:00 [2] ** 4.0 km (6:45 / km)
spiked:23/23c slept:7.0 shoes: New Balance 781

Ran the Sprint Course backwards with Ben, Prong and Grace. Managed to go to all the controls this time. Real slow and easy.

Orienteering race (Australian Sprint Champs) 16:00 [5] *** 3.4 km (4:42 / km) +10m 4:38 / km
spiked:16/23c slept:7.0 shoes: New Balance 781

Oh dear, what a shocker. Spent a whole minute running up and down the main street of York looking for the f**king first control in view of most of the orienteering community. Only found it after the next starters came through. Then took off on the rest of the course, trying to block out negative thoughts. Did pretty well until number 19, when the course crossed back over itself at 15, and Robbie who started 4?mins behind me punched number 15 in front of me. Which made me realise that I didnt punch 15. Gave up and walked back.
Later I realised that I also missed 13, which I must have run within about a metre of without realising. The course I found to be quite cluttered and confusing, I dont think there needed to be controls right on the line of a loop crossover TWICE.

A race to laugh about then forget.

run warm up/down 15:00 [2]

Warm up for sprint

run 1:30:00 [3]
slept:7.0 shoes: asics 1110

Did Spit Bridge to Manly and back with Andy, as far as 40 Baskets Beach. Felt really good, we werent going real fast but I was never out of my comfort zone. So many people on the track made it really difficult to get a rhythm.
A squishy afterwards really hit the spot.
