Note
(rest day)

really frustrated about yesterday's mispunch. I feel like it was such a dumb mistake, and I'm way over mispunching... I haven't mispunched in years, and I'm just furious with myself for throwing out such a good race because I didn't check the code once. I'm just so mad at myself.

Also coming back home and going back to the boring day-to-day life sucks... and I shouldn't even run today because I'm dead from the weekend, and tbh I don't think I physically can... like mentally I really want to go for a run, but physically I feel awful and even walking is rough. Not saying that I don't feel awful mentally, but I just want to go for a nice, easy run and just keep working towards improving so that I could crush it on west point.

And it's annoying that I have to eat to have energy and not be hungry. Like, I wish I could train without having to worry about proper fuel and stuff, I feel miserable if I even cut down on what I eat at all, it's annoying. I just want energy to do the things I enjoy doing.

Training Oliver 52:24 intensity: (33:49 @1) + (4:35 @2) + (13:40 @3) + (20 @4) 3.52 km (14:54 / km) +55m 13:50 / km
ahr:120 max:165 (rest day)

For the first 1.1km +18m(22:05), I was practicing "let's go" with him (while walking). He got the hang of it pretty well, I think this was legitimately the first time I went out for a walk or anything with him and didn't go insane.
The next 1.26 km +8m (12:24), we were practicing "let's run", and just like with let's go, he was staying next to me and when he started going ahead, I'd turn around and run the other way. He did really well, now just to teach him to do this well enough so I can focus on my own training haha....
Then the last 1.15 km +27m (17:55) we practiced mostly "let's go" and occasionally a little bit of "let's run".

This really worked well. My dad told me to try and go out with Oliver and practie the "let's go" and "let's run" commands by focusing on training Oliver, ignoring training myself, and then that I should gotrain myself before/after without him so that I can get my training in and Ican tire Oliver out a bit while getting him trained to actually be able to join me sometime. Today it worked really well, so I'm going to try and do this approximately every day. It really helped that I was focusing on Oliver, so he was behaving well because he knew what to do, I didn't get frustrated out of my mind, and I think we're both happy with how it went.

Orienteering race (Coventry Woods F21+) 1:47:12 intensity: (5:46 @2) + (32:55 @3) + (1:07:52 @4) + (39 @5) *** 9.58 km (11:11 / km) +333m 9:32 / km
ahr:164 max:192 19c

Real frustrating that I mispunched. I felt good most of the time, I felt like I was actually pushing myself a good amount, and that I was navigating pretty well. Seriously, the only control whose code I didn't check was the wrong one.... There was a West Point girl who was also on red that stopped by that control and because at that point (control 16), I was tired and my focus was fading a bit, but I thought I wasn't that bad yet. Really frustrating, I wanted this race to count towards the tryouts for JWOC and WUOC and for ranking points... With the exception of the mispunch, I'm proud of how I did, especially after the race the day before. But of course, there is much more training I need to do. I gotta train hard to do well at West Point.
I might add a course write-up later but tbh i'm a bit disappointed so yeah I might just not... I mean I course reviewed with several different people a ton of times already so yeah. My routegadgets from the weekend are up.

Also anyone have any tips for running faster downhill off-trail? I'm scared to pick up speed because I don't want to break my ankles, especially when there are rocks and holes hidden under the leaves

Orienteering race (French Creek North F21+) 2:05:08 intensity: (49 @1) + (11:02 @2) + (1:04:10 @3) + (48:11 @4) + (56 @5) *** 9.64 km (12:59 / km) +292m 11:17 / km

I was going okay until about control 9, after that I almost felt like passing out. Not a great time to get my period.... and I forgot to eat and drink right before the race which was kind of dumb from me.
S-1: Loved this start. Just running on a trail, great for getting into the map.
1-2: I ran up to the campground loop, ran over to the thin trail (at least I think it might be lmao, I could've been parallel to it), ran on the trail north and took a bearing from the trail junction straight to 2.
2-3: yayyy first long leg...I started out with a bearing. I change my mind like 3 times so yeah. As I was going over the first spur, I realized that instead of going straight the whole way, I could try and find those little sections of the indistinct trail and run down, hit the bend in the trail and go right up to 3. I ended up hitting what I though was the charcoal platform with the depression just above it. I could have been wrong, but I think I was right, so I took a bearing from that platform to 3. I ended up more contouring around and found the charcoal platform by the formline, and I was certain about that, so I took a bearing from that one to #3 instead. Eventually I made it there.
3-4: Took a bearing and tried to go straight there. There was a trail made by other runners so I somewhat followed it which was helpful.
4-5: Took a bearing again, no problem that I can think of other than being slow.
5-6: Took a bearing. Towards the end of the leg I noticed I found the charcoal platform just SE of the circle of the control.
6-7: Took a bearing, wandered a bit too much to the west but thanfully the boulders were big enough that I saw them.
7-8: Contoured-ish over to the trail to the south, ran down the trail and took a bearing to the corner of the private property boundary from the charcoal platform in the light green. I followed the boundary and dropped down when I saw the boulder.
8-9: Didn't even bother taking a bearing, just ran down, counted the 3 ditches as I crossed them, saw the charcoal platform so I dipped a little lover, saw the pit and the boulder group.
9-10: I thought it would be better for me to take the upper trail. I ran over, hit the vehicle track just above the junction, thought it was too high for a sec so I wanted to cut throught he woods to the lower trail and after a few steps I noticed that I was above the junction I wanted to be above. I went uphill on the track, stayed left and was dying. Going uphill on a trail gave me too much time to look ahead on the course and just killed my motivation seeing legs 12-13 and 13-14. At the highest bend on the trail, I took a bearing to 10 to keep on the contour line kind of. I rnded up on the spur just NW of 3 and followed the strip of rocky ground down to 10.
10-11: Took a bearing down and even though it was dowhill it still felt rough. I was starting to get a headache and felt a bit weak.
11-12: Took a bearing and I think I was a little north so I corrected and hit it fine.
12-13: I tried to make this leg as painless as possible. I hit the indistinct trail and ran up it and I took a bearing up to the middle west sharp bend in the trail. I followed the trail to the other bend and took a bearing from that to control 3 to help me out with the contouring.
13-14: I hit the bend in the trail with the charcoal platform and went up the hill. I ran fown the vehicle track down to the trail crossing, took the trail down to 14.
14-15: I took a bearing and ran as straight as possible. I just wanted to be done at this point.
15-16: I think I took a bearing again.
16-17: I ran through the woods straight to 17.
17-F: Whoever made this a downhill finish is amazing. It was so nice to just go and let gravity take me.

a little warm but not bad. just chilling and trying to teach oliver that the walk in the beginning and at the end is for him to do his business, and while we're running, there's no stopping.
also I was kinda dumb to run around an elementary school, and they let out at 4pm so.... yeah fun... I don't like people, especially not children lol
