Orienteering race 28:13 [4] *** 3.9 km (7:14 / km) +20m 7:03 / km
spiked:12/15c

Knettishall Heath Orange course, 3.9km.

Tricky orange with lots of fairly empty woods and a big feild right in the middle. Moderate trail network, most of the controls were on or near trails but there were some in pits where you could not see them.

Start) Hardest control on the whole course!!!!!!

1) SW on trail, then S on trail, thru clearing and woods to trail crossing.

2) SE on trail, saw big shallow depression on R, after it went in to the next depression.

3) S thru woods to trail and S on trail.

4) WNW on big trail, N through clearing, NE trail for 50m, in to the knoll/depression. The control was behind a big bush so you had to believe that the depression was behind the bush.

5) N on trails, trail turned W, depression.

6) SW through feild to patch of trees, SSW on trail, turned W on trail.

7) SW on big trail, after electric fence crossing, L on trail, and pit on the left.

8) SW thru woods to earthwall, followed it NW to its end.

9) N 10m to ride, turned NNW, N on ride, W on ride and the control was inbetween a thicket and Rough open w/ dense green lines

10) back E on ride, N on ride, and NE on edge of electric fence to the earth wall junction.

11) NE on trail.

12) SE on trail, into field, control at ditch/knoll.

13) Perfect bearing thru woods to big shallow depression.

Finish) NE trail.

Orienteering 39:00 [3] *** 3.4 km (11:28 / km) +25m 11:04 / km

Light Green course at Knettishall Heath, 3.4 km

Started off badly as I found #1, thought it was a different control because my clues for Orange were still in my holder (there werent loose CDs for the Light Green). Then I tried to navigate to a nearby holly bush. I didnt find it, but Inoticed that I was at the correct control the first time.

The rest of the course was OK except for slow vegetation.

Hike up Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales which may have recently been snow'd on. Came up the Pyg Track, the second hardest trail, and down the Miners Track, a little bit easier. Checked out some old mines on the way down.
