8 AM

Strength 30:00 [2]

Very late for OO, so did some core exercises in the morning.
12 PM

Orienteering race 1:09:18 [4] 12.04 km (5:45 / km) +270m 5:11 / km
shoes: VJ Supra

October Odyssey day 2. Doctors Gate etc. Nice mixture of fun detail in the quarries, and then legs across the moorland (you could pick a line that was usually not too heathery, although sometimes it was). Felt good.
3 PM

Orienteering 1:04:54 [3] 8.19 km (7:56 / km) +226m 6:58 / km
shoes: VJ Supra

Control collecting. Feeling very tired by now!

Orienteering race 1:15:20 [4] 11.89 km (6:20 / km) +382m 5:27 / km
shoes: VJ Supra

October Odyssey day 1, black course. My orienteering was a bit sloppy, was getting wrong spurs and re-entrants on the hillside (although it felt to me like one near the end was not in the right place). Feeling fairly strong, although hamstrings aching (still from Monday's hill reps??).
2 PM

Orienteering 1:06:19 [3] 7.59 km (8:44 / km) +232m 7:35 / km
shoes: VJ Supra

Tagging again at Eston. Nice steady jogging after this morning, and great clear views out across Teesside to the sea.

Running long 1:35:23 [3] 18.72 km (5:06 / km) +398m 4:36 / km
shoes: Nike Vomero 7

Long run out to Sunderland bridge and Croxdale Woods. Did three hills in Croxdale, was going to do more, but right hamstring and Achilles feeling tight, so decided to take it easy. Bit frustrating. In hindsight, it seems I pushed a bit hard in the hill reps earlier in the week, and maybe tweaked something in my hamstring, as it was still niggling 2 weeks later.

Strength 15:00 [2]

Core stability.
12 PM

Running hills 1:38:37 intensity: (50:37 @3) + (48:00 @5) 15.85 km (6:13 / km) +676m 5:08 / km
shoes: Nike Vomero 7

Pyramids of hills reps in Houghall Woods. Up the main middle track (starting from 20s back from the bench at the junction). Three sets of 25s / 50s / 75s / 100s / 100s / 75s / 50s / 25s. In the first half the recovery was same as the rep I was about to do, in the second half the same as the rep I'd just done, 120s in the midde, and 5 mins between sets. Bit of messing around the first set because of a stupid horse rider on the *foot*path (I told her maybe she shouldn't be there).

Felt good. To be honest I've felt a bit rubbish since doing the Berghaus Trail Chase 16/17th August. Went from that, into a hard week's coaching/training/racing in Stockholm on the JROS tour, then a week being ill, then just never got fresh again, did the odd long run or supposedly hardish session, but never really recovered. Until now - felt like I had some spring in my legs again. Aiming for a good week's training this week and next, then start winding down for the OMM (but with SHIs the weekend before).
