JK Day 4 - Relays - Graythwaite (Colonel's Drive) - Mens Short - Leg 2
c_2B - 2.9km

Changeover was really crowded and couldn't see properly so tried to stay as close as possible to avoid missing Kevin (had already happened to Colin and Mary - dad reckons they lost 3/4mins) so had minimal warm-up. Nicest part of Graythwaite I've been in! Bit of confusion to begin with working out where the first control was as the line was cut. Bit of faffing, usual first control of a relay problems running off without thinking properly and no plan. Got into it through the rest. Clean run and good routes and plans until the spectator - #11. Stayed too far back and getting distracted by where the run-in was. Lost a bit too much height to #12 but had watched enough people make that mistake so corrected fairly quickly. Rest fine.

Team 34th overall.

JK Day 2 - Bigland - W18L - 4.2km

I think "Less awful than yesterday" is the best way to describe this. Probably more mistakes in total but dealt with them better. Lost ~1.30mins from hesitations to #1. Overshot #4 being too high up the slope and overshooting. #5 was just straight up a horribly steep slope, probably didn't pick the best line up. Calves and foot were screaming. Drifted slightly on both #7 and #8. Big mess up on #10, didn't plan at all and had to reattack from the path, lost ~10mins. Rest good.

Probably could've made up 25mins from mistakes which I would've been happy with.

Unsurprisingly 6th overall, should've been able to beat several of the people in my class easily but just didn't have the fitness or technical ability for this kind of area. Lots to work on, will aim to do a lot better at SinS..

JK Day 2 - Ulpha Park and Barrow Fell - W18L - 3.9km

Hahahaha. Don't think I've orienteered this badly since I was about 5... Never got into the right frame of mind and wasn't concentrating at all, dropped 7mins on #1, not reading the map properly at all and messing around, I have no idea what I was thinking. Confidence blown immediately and screwed up #3 as well, didn't orientate properly leaving #2 and hit the wrong side of the wall. Let it get to me and never calmed down enough to stop faffing and relocate properly, lost ~12mins, so annoyed. Enjoyed the open area, shame we only had 3 controls on it.. Back in the wood, lost 4mins getting distracted to #8. Overshot #9 but generally had a good plan for once, lost ~6mins. Twinge in my foot had turned very painful even to walk on, slope making it even worse. Managed to do a few okay but biggest mistake at #13. Lost ~16mins. Didn't plan properly and drifted completely off line, couldn't relocate at all. Shouldn't have let it get to me but I was fuming and really angry at myself for such an awful run, basically beyond caring and didn't have the energy for running up the hill. Hit #14 and worked back from there. Rest simple but slid most of the way to #18, completely dehydrated and exhausted and just fell every other step.

So so so not happy. Some of the most technical orienteering I've done and completely messed it all up.

JK Day 1 - Sprint - Lancaster Uni - Women's Open - 3km
37/57.

Really enjoyed this area! Lost 15secs to #1 stopping to help some kids, good all through the first area. Fairly easy navigation but had to concentrate. Lost 10secs to #12 overshooting the alley, very stupid. 18secs blown to #14 losing concentration and not counting how many buildings I'd passed. Rest just more hesitations, missed a better route choice to #17. Managed not to go for a swim on the run in! Overall happy with this but definitely need some sprint training, just too much hesitating still!
