Sprintelope - Longniddry

My favourite running conditions with calm, drizzly rain so was zooming along quite nicely. Slightly bad route to 7 and made a bit of a mess of 16 but the rest was good. Slipping about in the forest part as the tracks were muddy and only had trainers on. So bailed completely out to the main track to 18 as it was gravel.

On 1st leg again with Rona then Sarah.

Had the far right hand control at 1 so was behind everyone already (again! ). But this time didn't panic and slowly reeled in Grace and Laura over the next couple of controls, waiting for the splits to even out again. But turns out we didn't have any other splits, just the order of the loops, which all 3 of us had the same! Was very surprised to see Ben and Will at 5 and thought they must've changed to the A course or something!

Started to struggle a bit heading up to the loops. Breathing was getting quite wheezy from all the climbing. Managed to cling on to Laura through the loops, but Grace got away a bit towards the end of the 2nd one. Was walking any small incline by the this point and just trying to hang on. Then hadn't fully decided which track to take to 18 so ended up flailing in the green between them for a bit before bailing to the southern track, by which point Laura and Grace had gapped me by 30sec. So bit annoying not to send Rona out with them, but still much better than JK.

Sarah managed to pass FVO on last leg and gain on EUOC but not quite enough in the end. So 2nd place :)

Hadn't planned on doing much today but the sun was out so headed off down the coast for a spin and ended up turning into rather a long ride!

Along the coast to Longniddry, across to Haddington then winged my way back along some country roads and paths, eventually ending up on the Pencaitland railway path. Had to stop for Lucozade and egg sandwich at Newcraighill as I was beginning to bonk from lack of water/lunch. Good fun!

Made a right mess of #4. Chose what I thought was a good route, then turned down a driveway too early. Came back out and down the one I was supposed to go down, only to realise it was blocked off at the end. So turned round and went back down the first driveway I'd turned into!
Got more into the flow of it after that. Although definitely could have done without the last 2.5km of purely running!

From Tyndrum whilst Jonny and Liam were running the whole loop of 4 munros.

Speed hiked the way up, then slowly wandered back down admiring the views now I could actually see something.

The first 2 hours of this were in the mist so barely saw a thing. But there was absolutely no wind on the tops so it was really peaceful and felt like I was the only person out there at times. Lost the path a couple of times but had my compass out so kept in the right direction and got back on eventually.
Then coming back down off Ben Oss, the mist cleared away and got lovely views down to Loch Oss, back down the valley I'd walked up and even out to Loch Fyne

Innerleithen Pass!!

This has been on my bucket list to do ever since driving through it in 2016 and finally felt strong enough on a bike to be able to ride this distance. Absolutely glorious sunny day with no wind, beautiful country roads and lambs everywhere. Absolutely loved it :) Was expecting to see loads of other cyclists like on the Gladhouse loop but only saw 3 people between the bypass and Innerleithen. Maybe there's even more exciting places to go riding...

Nice cafe stop in Innerleithen for some waffles before heading down the Tweed Valley to Galashiels which was just as nice through the trees and bit of gravel 4wd track to keep my mountain bike happy.

Very cold overnight and neither of us got much sleep, despite wearing 6 layers of clothes including puffer jacket! A much easier 2nd day with a fairly gentle climb up to the 4th munro of the trip (Carn a'Chlamain), then down a track all the way back to Blair Atholl. Legs started to get very tired on the final slog down the valley so Jonny carried my bag for a bit to ensure we got to the train on time .

Fun weekend tramping with Jonny. Caught the train to Blair Atholl then climbed 3 Munros (Carn Liath, Braigh Coire Chruinn-bhalgain and Carn nan Gabhar) before a long slog up the valley to the Tarf Hotel bothy.

Was mostly nice weather but had a few flurries of snow/rain come through so was very cold on the tops. The final munro was particularly miserable with very strong crosswinds as well so had to hide behind the various cairns/trig points along the top.

Plan was just to cruise around but had been feeling stressed/ill all day so my head was not really in it at all. Navigating like a complete novice...ran down 2 wrong roads, terrible route choices and spending so long looking at the map without actually taking any information in.
Still fun to run on a new area anyway.
