Note

Spent the morning finding pretty rocks on Gemstone Beach, went bodysurfing at Colac Bay, then drove to Curio Bay. It poured with rain so we sat inside reading books instead of going to Slope Point.

Lovely run in Bluff on the Foveaux track. Probably the most southern place I'll ever run! :) Really cool tracks...started out in native bush, then around the rocky coastline and finished with a steep climb through stunted shrubland to the top of Bluff hill with a bonus spiral to the lookout for the gps too. Great views of Stewart Island.

From the Miles' house up Te Whiti Riser for something new, then lap of the park and back.
Had a scan today so hadn't eaten in 6 hours, followed by nomming down a bowl of couscous right before meant my stomach felt very stitchy. But was fun to run somewhere new.

Relocation/map contact with Dad. Had half the controls each so he would navigate to his one then I'd have to navigate to mine from there.

Pressure/fatigue simulation - Scotts Ferry
Had to sprint a few hundred metres along a track, then try to navigate round 4-5 controls in the forest at speed. Did the first 2 alone then raced Dad on the 3rd for some head-to-head practice.
Absolutely dead partway through the 2nd one. Just jogged/walked the 4th. The soft ground was energy sapping.

With Dad again, memorising the leg whilst the other person was running the current one. Went well apart from the last one where I'd been following where Dad was running so I could help relocate when he got lost but didn't look at my leg well enough and got confused near the circle.

Head-to-head with Lizzie on long legs. Had 5 seconds to choose a route choice then run. Except we chose the same for all except the last one so was more like me trying to keep up with Lizzie.

Farewell Spit with Jonny and Dad.
By far my favourite run of the trip!! Along the coastline on the Puponga Farm track from Wharariki Beach to Puponga. Started out running on the beach, then climbed and dropped up several very steep grassy slopes that had views out to archway rocks, caves and giant ravines. Then completely changed to bush and rusty coloured sandstone rock as we climbed to the lighthouse and Old Man's Range.
Dropped down to Fossil Point at the end where we found a seal playing about on the beach :)

Castle Hill - prologue course from Canterbury Champs 2013. Lots of controls so was like control picking. Did terribly on the first hill with the smaller boulders and could barely run as just in road shoes again. But got going a bit better in the main big rock area.

Castle Hill - chasing start course with gaffles.
Head to head with Jonny, he ran slowly to let me catch up at the first common control after the first loop, but my loop was a fair bit longer so I snuck in front going into the final section of common controls. Then promptly messed up the next control :P Managed to outsprint him at the end to take the win though ;)

Naseby Sprint from South Island Champs 2012. Just jogged around slowly as road shoes weren't really ideal. Managed to do faster than what I actually did in the race.... (although I don't think I went to the right spot for 14).

Ben Lomond saddle with Dad. Incredibly steep at the start, but then got better walking through the mountain bike park in douglas fir, then across the tussocky open to the saddle. Got there just as Jonny was running down from the top. Stopped for some food and saw a kea. Then back down the same way, ran a bit near the bottom when Jonny caught us back up again.

1 hour tennis with Jonny at Jack's Point. Probably the most scenic tennis court I've played on, with views of The Remarkables and across to Ben Lomond.

Gillespies Beach to Galway Beach to find some seals but they weren't there :( Track was very washed out and rocky so both feet were in lots of pain and had to walk back along the beach at the end.

Mt Robert with Dad up the more gradual Paddy's track then back down the really steep zig-zag Pinchgut Track. Stunning views across Lake Rotoiti and the grassy meadows at the top were really pretty.

Ran some of the JWOC middle trial from a few years ago with Jonny. Alternated doing a leg each. I got completely lost on number 2, but after that was okay.
