Kayaking 1:30:13 [3] 13.8 km (6:32 / km) +14m 6:30 / km
shoes: Fenn Millennium

morning paddle after an overtime night shift. Pretty nice still morning. Had a few moments of tiredness where I wanted to get off the water but otherwise not a bad session. I did one full lap then 4km of 20 double strokes on/off.
4 PM

Road Cycling 1:36:25 [3] 41.46 km (2:20 / km) +524m 2:11 / km
shoes: Chiru Radium

After wasting most of the day in bed I finally got out for a late arvo ride. Nice to roll the legs over. Great still day but the temp was plummiting.
I'm not handling night shift as well as I expected. Hopefully I get a bit better at the post day tiredness.

10 AM

Running long 3:00:00 [3] 30.0 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Saucony Xodus 3.0

Long run in the Dandinongs with Damon and Kathryn. Met D & F at the Basin Theatre and headed off for 2.5hrs of hills. It took a bit longer than expected so we were out for 3hrs. Then Damon headed off for another 2hrs... Shame the GPS was flat so I don't know exactly where we went. The cold felt a lot better this morning and legs were less sore than expected after skiing.

Note

No specific training, but a day of downhill skiing at Mt Buller with Kathryn and Allison. I haven't been downhill for probably 10 years or more so I was pretty rusty. The snow coverage was very ordinary but good enough for a fun day. Happy to get away with all my knee ligaments intact. Though I felt pretty shocking with a cold all day. Would have liked an early night but stayed up watching the awesome coverage of the WOC relay.

early morning paddle after my first night shift. It looks so dark and gloomy at 6.30am but by 7 its starting to look a lot better. Happy to get out on the water after minimal rest last night.

12 PM

Running long 2:10:09 [3] 24.61 km (5:17 / km) +599m 4:43 / km
shoes: Saucony Xodus 3.0

Long run on my day off, with my first night shift tonight. Drove to Darlimurla with Kathryn (in her extended lunch hour) and ran 30mins down to Boolara and back. Ran at a pretty good kip on the uphill 2nd half. Then I ran home alone via a few new tracks. Started to tire particularly on the hills near the end.

7 PM

Running 31:17 [3] 6.1 km (5:08 / km) +155m 4:33 / km
shoes: Saucony Peregrine 2

I felt I needed to do some exercise even if it was short. Tried out the new Saucony Peregrine 2 that I got on the weekend (thanks Macpac :-). Wow they are pretty light and responsive. The Saucony range seems to get you up on your toes more, but I felt a bit pressure on the achilles because of it. Will have to keep an eye on it.

Note

First day of real work. No time for exercise, unless you count 3 hours or so holding onto a hose.

3 PM

MTB Cycling 1:31:21 [3] 24.51 km (3:44 / km) +549m 3:21 / km
shoes: Cannondale Rush

finally got off the couch and out for a ride. It was so windy I spent most of the time expecting a tree branch to smack me. Found a few new trail bike tracks. They were very wet and slippery. Might be worth a visit in summer. Legs felt ok.

Running long 31:12 [3] 5.48 km (5:42 / km) +136m 5:04 / km
shoes: Nike Air Span +6

Straight of the bike. The hamis were smashed from yesterdays run. I've been trying to release them all day. I did finally get going about 20mins in so it was worth the effort.

Note

I finished my work training course today. Was meant to go to the pub for lunch but someone must have tipped the boss off and it got canned. Dammit. So on monday I go onto shift as an Advanced Coal and Ash Operator (part time) and full time athlete.
8 AM

Running long 3:53:12 [3] 42.43 km (5:30 / km) +835m 5:00 / km
shoes: Asics Gel Nimbus 11

While it was a struggle getting out of bed, I was treated to a perfect sunny morning (unlike the forecast). Stuck some food and 3L water in the Macpac Amp pack and ran to Darlimurla, then a few k down the rail trail to meet a group of Harriers running up from Boolara. Turned around and ran to Mirboo North, then back again all the way to Boolara.
Had a coffee, dim sim and potato cake, a bit of a chat, then headed home. The last hour was pretty hilly and the R Hami was tightening badly but managed to lengthen it out to marathon distance. Not sure where the motivation came from, but feels good. I'd prefer to be in Switzerland, but very nice morning outing.
6 PM

Road Cycling 40:00 [3] 20.0 km (2:00 / km)

40mins on the windtrainer. Gee I find the windtrainer hard work. Just watch the clock tick over so slowly and can't wait to get off.
