Crouch Hill Street-O

So, an hour pounding the streets, and no particular knee troubles - mission accomplished! Still felt mightily unfit - not helped by this being much hillier than Street-O's usually are. Distance covered was a bit on the low side, and route planning could have been slightly better as I had 3 mins to spare and nowhere else to go (should have picked up a few more 10-pointers along the way).

But the result was great so it seems my route choice was fairly effective - ignoring all the NW section and the 50-pointer in the NE, but getting most of the rest (except a few 10-pointers). Being a "postbox" street-O was great - no dodgy questions or treasure-hunting to worry about, just run between the big red things.

Results - 2nd out of 68

Mytchett

Great to be back in the forest! Really enjoyed this, nice runnable terrain. Didn't feel like I was really racing, had no real speed (after 6 months of no speedwork) and walked up most of the hills, so just treated it as a longish training run and concentrated on trying to get the navigation right. Surprisingly, despite my lack of practice, the nav side of things all went pretty well - a few small misses but nothing too bad. Good result, although I think that was more due to getting the nav right than running well (and I was only doing the Short Brown, mainly against M45/50's).

But by far the most pleasing thing of all was to get round without any tweaking from the knee at all. If I manage the same on the roads at Tuesday's street-O then I think I'm pretty much "back" (even if lacking much fitness).

Results - 1st out of 67 (Short Brown)

Thames loop from work

All seems to be going pretty well on the return-from-injury front - looking forward to some proper forest orienteering on Saturday for the first time in a long time!
