Orienteering 30:00 [1] 3.0 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: VJ Supra 2014-1

I organized a Mid-Atlantic Junior Team training at the QOC local event at Prince William Forest.

Alli, Barney, and I got there around 9am, and I took Barney along to hang streamers for the juniors' corridor training. I had a corridor with 11 controls that were on their maps, plus 8 more that were on the corridor, but not on their maps. The idea was to force them to keep very careful map contact in the corridor and spot the "bonus" streamers as confirmation that they are on the right track. Hanging streamers with Barney proved to be a bit of a challenge, as he often disagreed with me on the streamer locations, and pulled hard to get me to go elsewhere.

I thought the training went well. We had five juniors, which is a solid turnout for a weekend when Fork Union was at an A-meet in Kentucky.

Orienteering!

After making sure all the juniors came back from the training and debriefing with them, I headed out on the Red course. It was a really nice course set by Tori, with a few long legs in the beginning, and some shorter, middle-distance style ones towards the end of the course.

I had a solid run for the shape I am in, without major mistakes. After the course passed through the start area - maybe 2/3 of the way into the course - I decided to pick up the pace and see if I could push hard all the way to the finish. It went pretty well, and I worked hard on the orienteering course, which felt nice. We had a few legs in common with Blue. On the long leg 3-4, Jon T took over a minute out on me. We also had legs 12-15 in common with Blue, and I won each of those, which feels nice. I am probably about 45sec - 1min/km slower than I was in this terrain last winter.

Running 30:30 [2] 5.08 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Yellow Mizunos 2014

Running! I ran home from work, the short way. A lot of traffic lights on the way, so lots of starting and stopping. I felt ok when running, but the starting and stopping wasn't great for the back. Also, felt really out of shape.
