Running (Orienteering ) 31:26 [3] 3.9 km (8:04 / km)
shoes: Nike Free

2 runs in 1 week! I'm prouder than I should be as 2 in 1 week isn't that impressive especially if you look at the distance & times but I'm happy.

So yesterdays cross training turned into staying at work untill 8.30 & getting home at 9.30 so enough time to eat before bed & no training.

Today we fared better - day off & only spent 1 hour on the bb & 1 hour in work :-/ (the nose is for Dan) today was tempo training according to my plan but I chose orienteering around Finsbury Park instead. Not as pretty as Kelsey but a nice park & it was loverly weather for it. Awful lot of pot smokers out though.

The course was fairly straightforward but I don't recommend listening to an audio book while orienteerong it's fairly distracting leading me to make some basic errors.

Firstly standing at control 1 wondering why it was 101 and not 171 as was on my wrist strap (they didnt give out separate control descriptions I was looking at an old set)

I ran the wrong way out of number 3 (I do this loads orienteering but I'm using the book excuse while I have it)

Spotted Dan coming up to number 10 slowed to walk with him which confused him massive as I was nearly done (doing the short race meant I went from 10-18) I still thought I had ages to go not realising 18 was the last control as most of the races I've done recently have been between 25-30 controls. I was rather happy when I realised what he was going on about & knowing I was nearly done. It did mean I got massively turned around and needed 2 people to stop me and point 1, that heading out of the park clearly couldn't be the right route. 2, I was clearly running along one road thinking it was another.

They did the horrible bit where they run you past the finish to a control then back to the finish. I dislike this just cause I am not an attractive runner I'm very slow, wobbly and red. Running past strangers I'm okay with as I'll never see them again & regardless how slow I am ill be past them soon enought. Running through the finish then back means I'm running past lots of people hanging around at the finish when I'll see them in the pub after is something I'm still getting used too.

Overall I enjoyed my run as for the training plan tomorrow is a rest day, Saturday is a recovery run for 30min and Sunday is a steady run for 45 minutes. I really don't get this running malarkey easy, recovery & steady run? I have one form of running, run feeling like your dieing but trying not to die with only different distance & times.

Running 19:27 [3] 2.2 km (8:50 / km) +50m 7:56 / km
shoes: Nike Free

Okay this is the 3rd time I have written this and it's getting more and more grumpy each time it's written thanks to attack point crashing. So I assure you I enjoyed the run even if the below doesn't reflect that.

So today is the start of a 12 week plan ending with me running my first half marathon. It's safe to say I'm regretting that decision already. Today I had to do a 30 min run, tomorrow I need to cross train what ever they mean by that & on Thursday I need to do tempo training. I'm opting to do park race, orienteering has lots of stoping/starting & change in speeds so I've decided it counts.

How did I get on today? Well I haven't run since I started working at Beckenham so I was trying out a new route which meant I had no clue of the distance. The route was round Kelsey park it was absolutely beautiful, really quite parks I only came accross the odd runner or person feeding the ducks. I did nearly run into a duck & can envision me having at least one incident where I run into or get chased by a goose evil bastards.

The actually run felt really hard! My calves were killing the entire way round but I did the whole run without slowing to walking which I'm proud of. It did mean that by the time I had done the loop I was pooped and ready to head home. The next run I have booked in is for another 30 min but my logic is to do 2 loops of the park roughly 40 min means I'm about right for the week & my aim will be to get the 2 loops to under 30 minuets when my body gets back used to running.

You will have another update tomorrow as I'm using this to keep me going & I'll let you know what I decide cross training is.

Xx

Oh I like my new runny shoes!
