Kayaking 59:44 [3]
shoes: Brooks Cascadia 12 red

STT paddling to start.

Came out of the gate hard and paddling completely out of sync...settled in around CP1 and much smoother coming back.

Trekking 1:38:44 [3]
shoes: Brooks Cascadia 12 red

Marked run to CP3 and then wrong way around the loop since we missed the black diamond sign. Well...more accurately I missed it and also missed when RB said, "hey Phil, there's a black diamond"...so two strikes there.

Luckily we could just go around our loop in reverse and not really add distance.

It did mean that we got a first hand view of what I can really only call the 'diaper swamp' behind the dump. Classy.

Biking 3:58:56 [3]
shoes: Pearl Izumi X-Alp Canyon

Well. Here's where it gets ugly. Really ugly.

So we had decided to run with all team gear in one bag and as little water as possible to minimize weight. It seemed like a great idea...

I took the gear bag (also seemed like a great idea) and after 750mls coming off the canoe went straight through the marked run and the trek with no water.

*facepalm*

I really thought I could just kill both bottles when we got back to the bike and be none the worse for wear.

Boy was I wrong.

I DIED on this bike. In my soul.

I didn't ride this bike, I GAVE BIRTH to it.

I SUFFERED.

We were even with teams that finished the course in 6:15 up to the start on the bike and we gave back a full 40 minutes over the course of this thing.

On top of that I was still carrying the team gear for at least half before we wised up and passed it off to someone else.

I've done this enough times to know better...and yet somehow this still happened.

Cost my team a lot of time and maybe a top 5 finish in this race. Brutal.

Trekking 31:00 [3]

final loop around Sir Sams. I had finally rallied a half hour before the race end so I got to feel great again just in time to cross the finish line.

BW turned his ankle a few times on this one...seems like he has my affliction. Poor guy.

Overall 7:05 and 15th. Could have easily been in at 6:20 and maybe a top 5 finish if I had remembered that you have to drink water while you're exercising......I guess there's always next time. Sorry team.
