Course was the same length as yesterday but took me 9 minutes longer. The first 3 controls were really shaky - I just wasn't getting into the map. Vegetation was thicker and thornier than Saturday, and the horse trails today had a totally different character (read that as slippery, muddy quagmires) than Saturday's hiking trails. After the 4th control I settled in and hit most of the rest quite cleanly. But when I saw my time I was sure I'd lost my day 1 first place position, and probably wouldn't even make it onto the podium. But as is often the case, everyone else had a tough day too, and I held on for first place overall.

My students also had a rougher day of it, but good depth allowed both teams to hold on to win both HS Varsity and Intermediate School, even though not a single team member earned an individual top three award!

After awards, we got on the road - 15 hours and 900 plus miles later, we were arriving home just in time for quick showers before hustling off to school.
