Dersu's 10 km "purple" course at Woodland Trails BSA Camp. Shredded the second pair of O' pants in 2 days.

Tired from yesterday, felt quite slow especially in the final half of the course. Made a few dumb mistakes, probably aggravated by tiredness.

Woods northeast of 5 were greener than mapped; staying toward what I thought was white woods took me too far south of the control, hit the tiny gully SE of the circle and quickly recovered. Probably lost a minute.

Wasted a lot of time on number 7 - point feature (pit) in a bland flattish area of cedar scrub. 8 minutes on a 2 minute leg. Not sure that there was any good way to hit this control. I kept to the right side of one subtle reentrant that should have led me near enough to pick up one of the pits or junk piles. Attacked along a second subtle reentrant that also should have pointed at the feature. Found a few tires which might or might not have been one of the black "x" features, but mistakenly didn't consider that it could have been the farthest one east of the circle. Finally went north to the clearing, reattacked and found the indistinct path which led to the very subtle junk piles (a few rotting boards), which still didn't seem to be quite properly aligned in relation to the pit, but at that point I was close enough to spot the control. Bah.... Blame half the lost time on the map, but I should have paid more attention to the other black x and if that failed, bailed sooner and faster.

A bit sloppy on 9 and 10, 30 seconds each.

Clean 11, 12 and 13, but started feeling really physically slow on the hills to 14. Pretty clean to 15 and 16. A bit off on 17, where an un-named orienteer calling out to her friend drew my attention to the control and could well have saved me from blowing by it into oblivion.

Clean to 18, wasted about a minute on 19 not quite able to figure out the mapping on the edge of the circle. The map was right, I was just getting energy deprived and stupid.

Got 20 ok, but it seemed to take forever bashing thru cedars and thorns to get back to the path. Sloppy approaching 21 and 22 (at least 30 seconds lost on each), too far right on 23 for a few more seconds lost.

Took too long figuring out a good route for the long leg to 24, and blew time on a couple of the minor path junction turns - lost at least a minute on the leg.

Physically depleted and just felt terrible getting to 25, but managed to keep pushing with just a little sloppiness to 26 and 27.

Hit the trail to 28, and left everything I had left on the course (not that it was much) going to that last control and the finish.

Not my best day. My tiredness and mistakes were certainly enough to make the difference between 1st place and 4th.
