warm-up hike to start - Moreau SP New York. 2010 US 2-day Classic Championships.

Challenging navigation in a technically detailed area. Rocky footing made my movement slow and difficult. I rarely felt like I was pushing all that hard physically.

To and from dinner, a few blocks from the hotel. Steve wanted us to drive but the rest of us talked him out of it and we had a pleasant walk, passing the Glen's Falls Civic Center and crosssing the Hudson on Cooper's Cave Bridge (named for the cave visible on an island below the bridge which was a setting in James Fenimore Cooper's "Last of the Mohicans"). Enjoyed a nce dinner and beers with ORunner, Steve Hughes and Adam (no beer for the latter:-).

misc yard and garden. About 1 hour+ moving mulch by wheel barrow, then digging and moving a couple wheelbarrow loads of dirt. Felt just a little off today, so decided not to do any hard running.

showed up at Joyce Park with intent to run some mile repeats with Orunner and the girls, but a thunderstorm had other ideas. We sat in the picnic shelter for 30-40 minutes waiting for it to abate, but lightning continued to strike repeatedly within 2 to 3 miles and once as close as half a mile, so there was no way we were going to run. First rain we've had in ages and we sure needed it, but what abyssmal timing.

warm up and cool down from remote parking lot to start/finish of Niagrara Falls Sprints. Included a little light jogging.

Niagara Falls Sprint on Goat Island. Great Fun with spectacular views of the falls. Not particularly challenging navigationally. Lost a couple seconds each on 5 and 8 due to going the wrong side around the buildings, but hard to tell for sure. On 5 the description said "NE side" and the building was at a slight angle to north, so I headed around the right side to the ENE corner but had to come back since the control was placed midway along the NNE side. Description was fair, my bad.

From 2-3 I might have saved a few seconds if I had gone left of the main building thru a patio area instead of around it to the right, but the patio looked pretty crowded with pedestrians and from passing the building earlier I knew that there were tables there where people were eating, so I figured the longer distance was a safer tradeoff than dodging the tourists.

This was probably some sort of record for longest ratio of time spent travelling (15 hour round trip) to time spent orienteering (less than 14 minutes), but it was well worth it for the rare opportunity to run in this unique and spectacular venue.

Note: 920 mile driving day. Oxford-Niagara-Oxford. Gee, I think I did that once before!
