trail running 23:30 [3] 2.4 mi (9:48 / mi)
shoes: Sala Runner 2

mountain bike trails at England-Idlewild Park (future mapping project).

orienteering 8:00 [2] ** 0.8 km (10:00 / km)
5c shoes: Sala Runner 2

The Boone County Parks Director gave me an old black and white map of a permanent orienteering course at Boone Woods. I ran to 5 locations, and found the remains of what might have been one post. "Woods" is kind of a misnomer, since this park is mostly open land with a few stands of trees. Possible future mapping project for a sprint map. I wonder if the old map dates from the days when OCIN founder Joe Harris lived in northern Kentucky (late 80's), or if it was a more recent scout project. The map did not have a date, mappers name, or any other clues, although it had a faiirly well-written description of how to orienteer for beginners. 5 foot contours showed some pretty subtle detail, possibly from an engineering map.

orienteering race 49:15 [4] *** 4.9 km (10:03 / km)
13c shoes: Jalas hi-top O' shoes

COO event at Great Seal State Park near Chillicothe. "Green" course, but most legs had road or trail handrails, so difficulty was generally easier. However, mapping problems (new trails, thicker vegetation, imperfect contours) made it tougher.

trail building / maintenance 2:00:00 [2] 1.2 mi (1:40:01 / mi)

light maintenance on my section of Buckeye Trail in Scioto Trail State Forest near Chillicothe. 90 minutes with fire rake doing minor repairs to tread and minor removal of encroaching vegetation. 30 minutes with loppers doing light trimming of overhanging branches & briars.

walking 23:00 [1] 1.2 mi (19:10 / mi)

Buckeye Trail, Scioto Trail S.F.

walking 1:30:00 [2] **

checking locations of controls on new permanent course at Hueston Woods State Park (lodge area). I'm calling this walking rather than orienteering since most of these locations were pretty easy and I had already visited them before the posts were installed.

trail building / maintenance 1:30:00 [2]

moving two permanent course posts which had been incorrectly installed. One was off by about 30 meters, the other by about 90.
