road running warm up/down 3:35 [2] 0.35 mi (10:15 / mi)
(injured) shoes: Icebugs

short warm-up & cool down at PWFP.

orienteering 55:15 [2] ***
(injured) shoes: Icebugs

slow test run checking route choices on several legs of blue course for 2007 US Champs. Muscle pull still forcing me to go slower & more carefully, but slow jog felt ok most of the time.

walking 4:22:00 [1] ***
(injured) shoes: Icebugs

This represents a 9 hour day in the forest at PWFP (Event Consulting / Controlling for 2007 U.S. Champs). The leg muscle (hamstring?) felt ok although noticeable when I walked, but pulled a little whenever I tried to go above a walk, so this was a slow paced day.

trail running 17:25 [2] * 1.5 mi (11:37 / mi)
(injured) shoes: Icebugs

by late in the day, muscle pain was almost gone while walking, so I tried some slow trail running (50% gravel road, 50% athletic fields, trails & power line right-of-way). Noticeable pain when running, this represents 4 segments of slow running of about 4 minutes each, separated by walking & fieldchecking. I tend to be super-conservative when it comes to medicating, but took an ibuprofin at bedtime & seemed to feel better both that night & next morning.

orienteering 2:07:00 [2] ***
shoes: Icebugs

Event Consulting for 2007 U.S. Championships at Prince William Forest Park, Triangle, Virginia. Most of this was slow jog or walk, since I was checking precision and detail. I didn't count any time (another couple hours) stopped and checking immediate vicinity of controls, making notes, etc.

trail running 5:23 [3] * 0.5 mi (10:46 / mi)
(injured) shoes: Icebugs

PWFP. short section of trail run. Unfortunately, I caught my toe on a root or stump & hyper-extended my other leg, pulling a muscle in the back of the leg where it attaches to the buttock (is that what they call the hamstring?) Anyway, it bothered me the rest of the day, but I continued to do some jogging, probably more than I should have.
Note to trail builders: you NEVER cut a sapling off at ground level... as the soil compacts and erodes, a trip hazard will be exposed. Experienced trail builders cut trees leaving a 3 or 4 foot trunk, then follow up by digging out the root ball (the taller trunk means that you don't miss seeing it & also gives leverage for prying/pulling once you've chopped thru roots).

road running 6:12 [3] 0.6 mi (10:20 / mi)
(injured) shoes: Icebugs

finished up the day at PWFP with a jog back to the rental car on a gravel road.

weights / strength (snow removal) 10:00 [3]

Broke up the last ice sheets on the driveway. Warming temperatures are at last melting the crusty snow... should be a lot easier to get back into the woods in the next day or so, but it is going to be real wet & sloppy for a while.
