Event: Aquinas

Orienteering race 15:00 [3] *** 1.7 km (8:49 / km)
spiked:18/19c shoes: ASICS GT 2170

NavDash race at Aquinas, jogging slowly due to injury, 2.25km on gps. Only time loss was going around a small building then finding an unmapped fence across the passage - could have saved 5-10 secs going around the building the other way. Slow pace made nav easy, hence no mistakes.

Orienteering 40:53 [3] **** 4.04 km (10:07 / km)
spiked:9/9c shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330

Training at Malmalling - Full speed, no mistake technique. Good, didn't make any mistakes, but couldn't say the terrain was well-designed for full speed - v steep in places and v thick in others.

Orienteering 39:22 [4] **** 4.27 km (9:13 / km)
spiked:5/6c shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 330

Second exercise at Malmalling - this time we had to work out the FSNM route ourselves rather than follow Gareth's suggestions. Very good for the first 5, and terrain was more friendly so a lot quicker. Then disaster! 5-6 was a longish leg where I guess a wide track route was the best FSNM route. I tried to pick a straighter line with no real contact points after the first 150m, and I even missed them by a fair margin. Somehow crossed the Helena River (no water) and ended up well off the map for several hundred metres. Decided to do the leg again and eventually found 5 for the second time. Made sure of compass this time and went ok. More disaster heading back to the Finish when I tripped and landed with my right hip and abs on a large stone. Massive area of bruising and skin loss, but hopefully nothing more serious. Don't want another broken rib after 3 in the last 6 years.
