11 AM

Running warm up/down 8:30 [3] 1.0 mi (8:30 / mi)

Not this first time there has been no designated warm up area at a major event
Ran out the way we drove in but clear I shouldn't go past start, so laps of the car park it was, and I was far from the only one
Wouldn't pass the risk assessment I think
Why is this overlooked so often?

Urban Orienteering 14:10 [5] 2.1 mi (6:45 / mi)

One mistake but a very costly, and silly, one

Otherwise superb, would have been through comfortably, albeit in the weakest heat it seems

But the elite guys don't make mistakes
12 PM

Running warm up/down 17:00 [3] 2.0 mi (8:30 / mi)

Warm down, then back up. Car park tedium.
2 PM

Urban Orienteering race 13:19 [5] 1.8 mi (7:24 / mi)

B final, 11th

A lot of fastest splits (11)

and a few mistakes

#7 - exited and expected to see control, so ran to 1st control I saw, which was closer to 2 than 7

#10 - hesitated as wasn't sure if could cross ditch, so stopped to check. then tiptoed over it

#21 - wrong side of wall, tried desprately to figure out on way but failed

#26 - punched control on first tree out of woods. Luckily, somehow, something told me this wasn't right and checked control number, continued to correct one

Mistakes are getting fewer I guess is the good news, bad news is I still make big ones at times
3 PM

Urban Orienteering 10:30 [2] 0.9 mi (11:40 / mi)

Exploring where I went wrong, the closed bridge, and the unmapped tunnel with Richard

Running 31:30 [3] 4.0 mi (7:53 / mi)

Round Highroyds, easy run, set out with Charlotte so kept looping back so she didn't get lost.
Threw in 8 x strides on the cricket pitch to liven things up/get set for the weekend.

Running 1:26:00 [3] 11.5 mi (7:29 / mi) +90m 7:18 / mi

Fartlek not started yet, but run from the club with Mike B, Deak, Tesfae, Jack and Susan for a bit.
Relieved to see (except for Susan) no one is in decent shape at present.
Went through a very bad patch around the hour on the golf course but last 15 felt a lot better.

Running warm up/down 4 [3] 0.5 mi (8 / mi)

Urban Orienteering race 40:29 [5] 5.7 mi (7:06 / mi) +30m 6:59 / mi

City of Bath Urban - 2nd, 40:29

A boost after yesterday, a good clean run, felt in control and on top of course throughout and solid route choices, just need to push myself a bit more and get the legs really moving.

Not sure why split to #1 so slow, must have set off too slow, held up at road slightly.

A bit slow into and out of #6 but spotted nearest exit to steps was in fact a bridge and went higher, probably best to back out and down to road.

After last weeks discussion etc about levels, marked different experience with #15, understood what was going on and took best route, though I can understand why others didn't totally.

If a canopy is something you can't run on, a different colour should be used for multi level runnability in my opinion, maybe a test somewhere would be useful.

22-23 proved problematic, went south to river, fell down steep bank, then running on tarmac failed to notice incline as looking at map and fell forward, just avoiding a nasty head impact.

Enjoyable event, slight feel the legs could have done with a bit more mixed length, mainly a few more short legs thrown in. But great all the same.
