orienteering 4:00:49 [3] 26.2 km (9:11 / km)

sooo... hudson highlander... my goodness gracious me. what an adventure. my legs were just kinda shot from 3 days of training like a frenchman but i still managed to make it up all the hills and not get totally lost from being so light-headed. the first section was just 6 controls over a very large distance. it took me 70:50 just to get to the trail run. then from there i just had to keep chugging along the trail alllll the way back to the map exchange which in itself took 39:51. from control 7 to 19 it was just a normal point to point course with lots and lots of climb. on the way to 8 i was looking 9 which made for a bit of a dilemna and then contouring to 17 and 18 would've been a tad trickier if Nickolay hadn't been there. The last map was definitely the hardest because i was sooo hungry and my legs felt soo tired. i basically just stumbled along through the woods trying to avoid climb and just thinking about the food at the end. I missed 22 by a couple contours and then 23 i decided to go to the bottom of the cliff even though the control was on a rock pile at the top of it... yeah oopsy daisies. after that though i survived and made it back on rather wobbly legs but at least i was all in tact. my mother will be happy i'm not missing any part of me :)

orienteering 1:21:00 [3]

saturday was absolutely gorgeous!!!! thierry set a 2-person relay course and I got to run with Matthieu which was definitely not a stacked team despite what others might say. There were 3 loops to start which everyone had to run and i did really well on all of them. legs were shaky but my orienteering was pretty good and the pressure of not letting down france kept me going up the hills. :P The last loop was only 800m and the two leading teams of Jean-Baptiste and Matthieu went out at the same time. It was so intense but Jean-Baptiste came in first with Matthieu just a little ways behind. The start was really well placed at the top of a hill so that the spectators could see runners coming in and it was easy to find for runners coming in :P we could also just listen for Ross cheering though :P definitely a very exciting race!!! :)
12:48 first lap
12:06 second lap
and then i forgot to take splits after that.

running 40:00 [3]

warmup led my François and running back to the parking lot.

orienteering 38:11 [3]

in the afternoon we ran the men's woc short distance race. i totally blew up control 1 by wandering around in the green before Jon caught up to me. :S i was flustered going to 2 and was walking the fine line of messing that one up too but i actually made it there alright. after that it went great. the rocky ground was icky to run on and i bruised my ankle on the way to 11 :( it was definitely not a stellar preformance in woc but thierry sure did well!! it was pretty amazing to see him blast out of the woods and sprint down the "finish chute".

i have splits but 1-3 are consolidated because i was more worried about finding the controls than getting splits.

orienteering 1:03:00 [3]

it was pissing rain all morning, but we ventured out into the woods anyways to do a 2 person relay-ish thingymadooer with forking. ian and i went together which was sweet cause that meant i actually had to run up the hills!! :P mainly read the contours and then the corridors of green when i really had to. i think the time includes running the actual course plus the warm up to the start.

orienteering 1:07:15 [3]

ran to the start of the middle course and then ran a 4ish km course. control 1 and 2 were shakey and i lost sooo much time battling my way through the slash that was up over my head. after that though it was pretty darn sweet!! oh and then i ran alllll the way back to the cars. lots of running! :P

orienteering 1:16:00 [3]

we didn't get to start the afternoon session until about 3:30 so by the end it was actually pretty dark and spooky in the woods. i orienteered pretty well, my legs would just not go very fast at all. a couple controls i was really lucky on too. i would be off my bearing, i'd stop, look to the left, and voila! there's the control!!! :P gotta love it when that happens!! :P running to the start and then back to the parking lot is included in the time too.

orienteering 33:10 [3]

corridor-o avec les francais. i was actually able to run in a straight line this time!!! woohoo!!! that only happens every so often! :P

orienteering 43:55 [3]

failllllll. a 17 control course that went well until the end. thierry m'a passé entre numéro un et numéro deux. il est vraiment vite!!! the map was super dee duper technical but it wasn't too bad if you just simplified the map and ignored more of the rock. in was 15 that i just bombed and i think what happended was i left 14 at a totally wrong angle and then was in the middle of the green on the wrong spur... oopsy doopsy!!
