Super fun running head to head with Emma! I caught up to her at control 4 after she had a mistake, and we were very close for the rest of the race. We took different routes to many of the controls but kept ending up back together :) I'm lucky to have nabbed the gold with my huge mistake on 3!

Running (Warm Up) 15:00 [3]

Orienteering race (Middle) 34:09 [4] 3.45 km (9:54 / km)

I am really happy with this race! As advised, I didn't think about my speed at all and just focused on my navigation. It paid off big time. I made three bobbles (more detail to come after course review), but I am happy with my route choices and quick decision making. I also got a crown and a fall-themed bouquet at my first flower ceremony so that was pretty cool.

Issues:
I think I took a slightly slower route to 2 (north on the trail than jumped over at the bend). I saw Emma at 4 so I lost focus (and time) going to 5. I chose to go north of the lake on 6 to avoid the gross yellow/green. I think I took the slower route choice to 7 also. I went between the two lakes and then looped around on the trail. I thought it had a nice approach though... I was with Addie at 8 and we both were on the wrong hill but figured it out pretty quickly. I went to the more northern green patch on 9, but again, not a huge problem or waste of time. 12 and 13 weren't perfect but I only lost a few seconds on each one. I need to work on visualizing the control circle to cut down those lost seconds.

So... looks like I had more problems than I thought, but none of them cost me over a minute. I'm aware that the seconds add up though.
